I'm going with an ipad2. I mostly use mine for education, electronic magazines, and Netflix. Xoom can not compeat in this area. With my $200 best buy credit I'll get a good deal. As for my iPad it goes to the kids.

Between my kids, wife and I we have 6 ios devices. I sold my ipad to buy xoom and have not been disappointed. I like my experience with Honeycomb so much I may sell my iphone 4 and go full on droid.
I have to say this " Xoom with Honeycomb the tablet for adults"
Ipad fantastic for my 8 year old though (Ipad with iOS the tablet for kiddies.)
I am not afraid to say no to Steve jobs.

What do you think about current games available on android?
Personally I'm not a tablet gamer. There's a console for that.![]()
FYI, someone who returned the xoom mentioned there was a $70 restocking fee.

I've been having a fierce debate with myself over the choice between an ipad 2 and a Xoom for a few weeks now. Having owned an ipad before, I have a pretty good feel for how the new one will be.
Last night I bought a Xoom at Costco. They make you purchase a 1 month plan with Verizon when you buy the unit. This morning I called Verizon to cancel the plan and they did that, and also waived the activation fee. I can also confirm at Costco they give you a mail-in rebate for the activation.
After playing with the Xoom last night for a couple of hours and as I lay in bed I came to realize I just don't care much for it. I got quite a few force stops, and my enterprise email for work quit quite a few times when the server connection dropped. Obviously this stuff will smooth out soon, but I couldn't help thinking about my ipad when I got it - and how everything 'just worked.'
After playing around with it today for a few more hours I've decided that it's going back to Costco for a refund, and Apple will sell one more ipad 2 on Friday (hopefully). There are some things I really like about the Xoom. I hope Apple takes note of the great notification system, and allows for options with widgets at some point. Also, I really like the Xoom's color scheme. The black on black is way sexy.
As a quick note, who the heck decided the Xoom power cord connection was a great idea? Sure as hell that'll snap off easily if you bump it the wrong way.
I'm telling myself that next Aprilish Honeycomb (or a replacement) will be smooth as buttah and all the issues will be worked out. I'd give an Android tab another shot in a second when it's time to replace the ipad 2.
OMG/JK: A Kiss For iPad 2, A Slap For Xoom
One of the guys is a real Android fan and even he said there is no way he would recommend a xoom right now because the software is not ready for prime time. Feels like its beta.
Hopefully Google will get the kinks worked out eventually, but I think they rushed it to market before iPad2 hit.
Every android "sync" discussion ends with, "just copy and paste".![]()
That's cool.
How are you watching movies?
Netflix and Hulu apps would rock on android!
For ios devices, you simply click a check box or create a multiple playlists in itunes, usually a few minutes after u plug your device into your computer the first time.
I dont know one person that takes a 100 vacation pics and immeidaely uploads them to facebook before first downloading them to their computer and at least reviews them first. Most ppl I know dont upload 1000s of 10+ megapixel photos to a hosted service. They select the ones they want to share.
It's cheaper to share paid content associated with one ID across multiple devices. If multiple IDs is critical, simply log into your computer as another user.![]()

I have heard a bunch of people talk about how laggy the xoom is and just real buggy in general.
This discussion and video over at tech crunch sums up what you said

Copy and Paste is clearly not the same as syncing. Plus Copy/Paste does not compress music and photos. Thus, music can be 2-3x the size it needs to be and photos can be up to 10x the size they need to be. Plus copy/paste includes useless files like .ini, .info, .db, .mov, etc. Don't even get me started about playlists, smart playlists, etc. This is clearly a user experience penalty.
And I repeat again, the user has to be aware of, search for, test, and possibly pay for these options. Another clear user experience penalty.
I'm no longer going to debate the number of ppl that empty the entire contents of their 10MP+ cameras directly into photobucket.
Please post here links to people asking how to sync "videos and music" to their ios device, preferably those that weren't created by you after this thread started.![]()
Not true. If a 320 bit rate file ends up on my device as a 192 bit rate file, my music doesn't become crap.
That would require interrogating every folder and subfolder you wish to copy to weed out unnecessary files. Clearly a penalty when compared to simply connecting your ios device to your computer and clicking a few check boxes.
You can give the user choice. The penalty is in not giving the user a default option that reliably works for all devices and content, forcing the user to create threads like, How do I sync videos and music.
But they can show photos using their ipad, typically minutes after they connect their ipad to the computer the first time, by clicking a few checkboxes.
Clever. You still haven't listed one of the forum threads you found where someone asks how to sync to their ios device. Did you find any?
You got 7.9 million search results but you still have let to list here one single thread. That's telling.
One problem with windows media player (and copy/paste for that matter) is that it will copy files that won't play on your device. WMP has no idea what video and music file types work on what android devices. This is yet another penalty, and that's assuming Joe Schmo even knows he can use WMP for syncing.
I dont like those 2 guys i wana take a sledge hammer to there knee caps...especially the apple guy and his stupid smile..

The XOOM has a HORRENDOUS screen. The contrast and viewing angles are garbage. That, to me, is enough to not consider it.
Also, look at all the apps that don't work for the XOOM (yet?). The iPad 2 has better--and better looking--apps. No question.
I still like the XOOM and think it's great (I've played with it a lot) but it's just not as polished as it could be in some respects.
The FFC for instance is really mediocre. I do like Honeycomb.
