Ipad or Xoom??

Kenny, your math fails Sir. 1/3rd thinner is pretty significant. The actual amount is small, as the first ipad is a thin device to start with.

Those of you who rabidly defend one product or the other and trash the opposite side amuse me. Your comments are immediately disregarded.

You don't have to like Apple. You should respect the fact they put out a quality product that many people want.

Don't see why this is a big deal? Ask someone who bought Apple stock a few years ago to show you why it's a big deal.

That's all they have to go with. The pad 2, it's thinner, it weighs less (1.5 to 1.3 :-) ) and apps, we have so many apps, yeah ;)

This is an android forum you know.

I see the little green guy up there. I know. Being a fan of Android stuff (as I am too) doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to see the good qualities of other platforms.

Nope, 50% is Significant. Probably see a lot of broken screens due to the flimsy nature of the mount. :p

:D :D :D

They have good qualities, I'm talking the pad here, in that they're basic. And they can be good for moms, grandmas and people like my brother.

I agree. Apple seems to make some nice hardware. It's their business practices and model that I disagree with. And certainly there is a market for that product to a certain market segment.

I personally will never do business with them if avoidable because of their business practices and lack of respect for their users.

The one thing I really have a problem with Apple: the pad is an example, you can talk about thinner or weight, they update from one generation to the next is very small. They talk a good game, get people to buy their stuff and people buy into so they get a pad 2 which isn't any/much better than an pad 1. That's Steve Jobs way.

kenny, I certainly agree with you on some aspects of how Apple handles things.

It's pretty shocking a business would update a product to get more sales and continue to make a profit! Can you imagine?

I'd also contend 2x more horsepower and 9x more graphic power is a pretty significant (there's that word again) upgrade.

I'm not an Apple fanboi here. C'mon, I shelled out full price for a Xoom to give it a fair shot.

Every hardware (and software) manufacturer does the same. <shrug>

I normally don't make posts like this, but I'm pregnant and hormonal, so what the hell...

My goodness...this is SERIOUSLY getting annoying!

mulder (and jmorse - based on the tone of your last post), you cannot be seriously posting about how much you love the iPad in an Android forum, can you???

I own an iPod Touch and I sold my iPad 2 weeks ago because of the xoom. But, I DO NOT go to an apple forum just to boast about and defend an android tablet or OS. Why? BECAUSE IT'S AN APPLE FORUM.

And don't give me that freedom of speech crap either. The owner of this forum is perfectly within his/her right to ban anyone who constantly bashes the xoom in a xoom forum. Because honestly, you're not helping. There is nothing wrong with questions, but there is something inherently wrong with constantly spewing the same crap over and over.

You like iOS...great for you. Why don't you try posting in one of the apple forums. They would love you over there. Geez!

Congrats on having a baby :-) . And well said.

Not like Apple does. I mean you're right but they have a big to do about it and no one talks a better game than Jobs. "We have 2 million apps".

Well certainly Jobs is the master of hype. But my point was that all companies do that to more or lesser extents.

I'm not bashing the Xoom. I'm not head over heals in love with the ipad either. I've owned both, and having had hands on time with both I'll be voting with my wallet. I guess I'm not entitled to have an opinion that isn't in line with everyone else on the boards.

I also own an Evo. Not because it's an Android device. I've kept it because it happens to be the best phone I've ever used. If I'm going to spend nearly a thousand bucks on a tablet, you can be sure it'll be on the one I like best.

You owned a Xoom? Knwing what the price was and yet now youre voting with the wallet? Which is fine, money is important but why did you get one then?

I picked up a Xoom on Friday night. My issue isn't with it's price. I honestly want to have whichever is the better product. After having played with the Xoom for a while I'll be taking it back and buying an ipad2. I am not blindly defending Apple here. I'm making an informed decision that's right for me, based on actual hands-on experience.

I'm curious about this too. You've owned both but not at the current time?

Did you buy and return them or ?

Then why say "voting with the wallet" suggesting the Xoom is too expensive? Also you said not "not head over heals with aa pad" yet you're buying one? Makes no sense.

I've owned the first gen ipad since launch and sold that a month ago. I have the Xoom sitting on the desk to my right and will be bringing that back to Costco probably today. If the stock gods favor me, I'll be getting an ipad 2 on friday.

There are some things I love about the Xoom that I wish Apple would incorporate. I knew going in that the Xoom is a device and os in it's infancy, so it's not as if I expect a ton of polish. I don't think I had unreal expectations in this regard.

Mich, by 'voting with my wallet' I mean I'll be keeping the one that I like better. This has nothing to do with the expense. I'll be getting the ipad 3g 64gig version, which is $30 more expensive.
