Iphone 3gs vs Incredible (Battery Test)

It feels like there are many people who may have received bad batteries. Either that, or signal strength is playing a major factor.

I took my phone off the charger this morning at 8:00AM. I have been using it moderately: surfed the web, played some games, talked on the phone for a bit, and sent a couple emails. Despite this, I am running at well over 60% power, and it has been over twelve hours now.

yea same here, i unplugged it this morning at 7am, at 9am i was down to 76%. at 1pm i was down to 55%, now at 7:30pm i'm only down to 48%. this is with consistent moderate use all day.

Well at least you're using yours...I barely touched mine all day since I was in class and it was essentially sitting in my backpack from 8 AM until 5 PM, only checked it 1-2x and put it right back.

Forsome reason if you just charge your battery to 100% it's really not 100% if I leave my battery in the charger for longer then when it says it's full . I don't get that instant drop. My phone was still at 98% with almost 2hrs of being unpluged and very very light use. Now when I dont' do that my battery dies so much faster must be something with the battery over charge function not really fully charging the battery

Has anyone else noticed that the last 15% of the battery takes for freaking ever to die. I have yet to be able to kill my Eris or Incredible completely

Also GSM uses much less power then CDMA FYI

My iphone is jailbroken and runs many programs at once. Yes, the battery is slightly stronger, but the battery lasts almosts twice as long as the incredible. Again, I don't know if I just have a bad INC - and the battery quality has obviously been hotly debated in this forum - but I just can't have a phone where you constantly have to be tethered to an outlet to ensure it doesn't die.

There is a post, I believe on here, where someone says after a few charges, he gets a lot better battery time. We'll see I guess, only time will tell.

Yea the last 15 mins def lasts WAYYY longer than the first 15. What I've been doing is maxing out the brightness and changing the display to stay on for 1 hour. My battery is shaping up pretty nice. It lasted around 48 hours during the last cycle.

So far I've cycled it about 4 or 5 times now and each time I ran the inc till auto shutdown to fully charged.

This thread had been beaten to death. However, if you're going to compare any iPhone model to any Android phone regarding battery life, you can't leave out that the iPhone has a non-swappable battery. In any Android phone, you can slap in a fresh spare any time you want. The Inc boots so fast that the whole process takes about 30 seconds. I've got an OEM Eris battery that is precisely the same as the Inc battery except for the color of the casing. You can get these pretty cheap. So, with a spare in my pocket I can blow the iPhone out of the water in terms of battery life when away from a charger, any time, any place!

To be honest, I'm very pleased with battery life. I was worried if it was going to be an issue, but really its far better than I expected. I work in the middle of a building with concrete walls/roof, and as such I have a very poor signal in my office. If i check the cell standby stats, I'm normally searching for signal 30-45% of the time at work.

I unplugged my phone at 6 am EST this morning and I'm still at 100% after checking email, sending a few texts and leaving it in my office for an hour. (Searching for network stat up to 10% now) Nor have I noticed on any day an immediate drop to 93% battery. Now, when I get Pandora going, it normally quickly drops to say, 70%, but then it wont move from 70% for 3-4 hours.

With moderate usage, 4-5 hours of Pandora, say 50-100 text messages, and a poor signal reception in my office, I'm still at ~60% when I get home. Thats more than I could ask for.

My biggest users of power are always Android System and Cell Standby.

I just ran a test on phone. Unplugged 2 hours ago and I'm at 97%. In those 2 hours I made one call and read several e-mails.

You have to also make sure you phone isn't staying awake. There is a bug that was causing mine upon boot to stay awake 100% of the time. Killing any ONE app that was started during boot via a task killer allows the phone to sleep (be it FM Radio, Dialer, etc). Or putting the phone in Airplane mode and then back to normal mode fixes it as well.

It is some goofy bug, but fixing it and my phone has been on for two days straight now with moderate usage and no charge.

stats like the above convince me there is poor QA with the battery or something weird with the battery widget

literally 60 seconds after unplugging my phone it goes from 100% to 98%

i notice this morning after i got off work, took it off the charger and within 5 minutes it was at 94. i know it more of a glitch, i figured that out the first day i had the phone. 5 hours later with me doing nothing and its at 82% which isnt bad except the phone wasnt touched for that time. But hopefully it gets better.

And i agree you can just swap out a battery, but the way it drains for some people they can start a call with 20% left and it run low during a call. So you cant always just switch the battery and bam be back in 30 seconds.

That is true. I'll usually switch out a battery at 20% and not take that chance. But you can always say, "wait, my wife is calling, I'll call you right back", swap it and then complain how she always bugs you during....;)

That being said, I really gave my battery a workout yesterday. High brightness, music, radio, text, phone calls, tons of email etc. and in 12 hours it went down to 20%. Not too bad, but I wouldn't have wanted to have to go another 4 or 5 hours away from a charge. I like playing around with this phone too, it's just so quick and responsive. I'll, therefore, have to carry around a battery or plug it in when I'm near a charge. But not yet, still testing.

Whether people want to admit it or not. The battery life is not the best but its not the worst either. My storm was a lot better in battery life especially in music. Using my inc for 2 hours texting, web surfing, using apps, browsing apps and having my e-mail being looked every 5min I have 60% left. Which is pretty good but the problem is when its in idle. I would pretty much go for 2 days on the storm with simple use. The incredible barely last a day with the same usage and no it doesnt have any apps that are keeping it from going to sleep and my mail client was off. The iPhone triumphs in this aspect but at least you can upgrade it or keep a spare which is good enough for me.

I have noticed that it does seem to "drop" % wise rather quickly however it still seems to be lasting on mine.

I pulled if off the charger @ 5:15a and by 6a I was down to 93%. Now at 12:45 its at 61% with me sending/receiving about 10 emails and 40 texts, plus 10-15 mins of talk time. Also surfed the web for about half hour and searched/downloaded from the market for about 10 mins.

I think its going on voltage and it seems that the battery hits a level in the 75% range to the 45% range that it will sit at for hours. as yesterdays experience was very similar to today with a little more usage and a battery life of 41% at 6:30 when I got home. Note: I am NOT one of those people who turns off the "Mobile network" when not in use so this is a consistant connection to 3G/1X.

Also I noticed that when I used it one day like my old phone (text and phone calls only) after 12 hours it was only to 64%.

I just noticed the phone charges 5 times as fast if it's off, so trying turning your phone off over night(if you can, i think the alarm might turn on the phone i'm not sure) and charging over night

Seido is making a case (innocase II) for the new 2100mAh battery verizon is selling

Awesome! Where did you get that intel btw. Have they announced that they'll be making a innocase II for the extended battery or is this inside info?
