Iphone 4 32gig VS Desire HD

^See I'm not the only one. Even on Apple forums, people can accept the iPhone 4's antenna gate issue but on here not everyone seem to accept that the DHD battery is pure crap. I will not turn stuff off, if other phones with the same features can last all day, whats the point in the DHD. There's a reason why iPhone will ALWAYS remain number one.

The DHD is good for browsing for the 4 hours it will last.


Seeing as this is iPhone vs DHD thread. Yeh the iPhone 4 screen is much brighter. The ignorant people are just sounding like annoying Apple fanboys. Do this, turn that off etc.

Your son gets less battery because he probably uses his iPhone 4 more the way he wants where as you probably are too afraid to use it the way you want incase the battery dies.
 
I cant accept that my DHD battery is crap when it isn't, Ive just got 2 days from 1 charge, WiFi on all the time, games, web browsing, music, texts and a few calls.

Someone said this forum is biased towards android phones, WTF did you expect, It's called ANDROID FORUMS.
 
Yes but not even Apple fanboys are uptight and arrogant as the people on here.

The battery life is crap. Mines draining 10% an hour even on standby. Also as I typed this th keyboard correction system was annoying me

There must be away to pause widgets and the live wallpaper and turn WiFi and gps when going into stand mode without downloading an app that will use even more battery. Also changed keyboard settings and It seems soo much better.

Enough of "it":(. Sorry to say that by keeping a user-name 'THE ANDROID' and showing that you own all the three phones (Iphone 3GS, Iphone4, DHD), & saying all the time "iPhone >> Android" all over the forum doesn't helps - neither you nor anyone else here.

Let's keep up the healthy discussion by talking about the "post" (battery-life) and not the "poster". (You/me/HTCwozz). Thank you very much.:)

Yeah I get about this on average these days, brightness on 15% and sync off gives me around 1 day to 2 depending on heavy usage.

Obviously upping the brightness for extended periods of time causes the battery to drain and using the GPS is for navigation will stop it lasting a full day (but have a car charger for that)

I've noticed my battery tends to tail off pretty quickly though, It'll be all right up to the orange bar and then get much quicker if I don't conserve it much..

I might invest in a second battery for emergencies / long trips, and it *would* be nice to have a higher capacity battery when other phones seem too..

But all in all if used intelligently (i.e. Not having it brighter than the sun with auto sync every 5 minutes) it should last an acceptable time frame.

Personally I'm never more than 24 hours away from a charge and even less from a PC, so it doesn't bother me all that much..

Just my 2 cents :)
 
Personally I'd rather have the iPhone 4. But at the time it seemed so expensive for what it was.

I'm more than happy with the phone, possibly if I could get an iPhone 4 at the right price I might get one and sell the DHD but at the moment I am happy with what I have

Isn't it nice that in DHD, someone at least have an option of havin 2 batteries (in case if required) whereas in iPhone I have heard battery is not replaceable (not easily like pull out the discharged battery and insert the charged one). Correct me if I am wrong.

And I am always near to charger points but am sure I won't need twice charging within a day because my requirements are neither like Pizza-boy who checks every other minute - new delivery order via wi-fi or 3G, new location on gps, listening to music all the day etc. nor like a business-geek who keeps checking & replying to emails whole day.

I understand exactly where your coming from but my point is, "why include extra features and not increase the battery size, thus making the user have to manually turn off features etc. in order to get them through a single day". I also understand that the iphone 4 doesn't have widgets but at the end of the day the only widgets i used on my DHD were toggles to turn sh!t off. On the IP4 i just leave the same features on all day and have no issue with the battery.

You say "since you doesn't really know how to use a "real" smartphone". First of all i'm extremely drunk and i can still write sentences better than you. It really should be, "since you don't know...". Either way "smart phones" are designed to have more functionality, no where does it say that a pre-requisite to own a smart phone is for the user to know what features to turn on and off throughout the day. When i see smart phone i think, extra features and the phone will enable / disable things like gps and wifi in order to preserve battery life when not being used.

Another user mentioned that his DHD lasts 1-2 days with the display at 15%. Do you live your life in a room with no windows and all the lights turned off? I found it impossible to use my phone in doors at anything less than 20% and outside at anything less than 40-60% depending on weather conditions and even then that percentage was a bare minimum and i would have preferred it to be brighter.

Obviously this is an Android forum but i would have expected some maturity from Android users rather than "Apple is crap" blah blah blah...

Someone also brought up about the iphone problems with reception and whilst i agree this is a design flaw by Apple, it is a far easier problem to rectify than putting a tiny fkn battery in a phone with a 4.3" display etc.

In terms of replacement battery i would like to use an old saying "don't fix it if it ain't broke". Obviously with the DHD the battery is crap and a replacement is welcomed but on the IP4 i can use my phone all day and have no worries with battery life so why would i want / need to replace it?
 
Widget is an optional features for you whether or not you wanted to use it. This is what Android is about isn't it. You are supposed to make a choice with the options given and unlike IP you doesn't even get a chance to make any choice at all. I'm not sure what is wrong with your battery but I had 6 homescreen full of widget and I still managed to get a full day battery same goes with my IP4.

For me when I see smartphone I see the phone will have extra features that any other normal phone doesn't have. I can do anything with a single click or I can set the setting based on what I wanted the phone to behave. Maybe you and I have a different preferences on what smartphone should be but with Android there are variety of phone offering different specs. So is up to you to choose the best specs for your preferences. If you know that the DHD had a 1230ma battery with 4.3" screen, logically the battery size is surely going to be a crappy battery. But still why did you bought it in the first place? There are so many choices out there for you to choose. Before I got my DHD, I did a lot of research on the performance, etc and I knew the battery will not lasts a day with heavy usage but I took the risks and even if there is a problem I still live on with the decision I made, find the solutions and carry on with my life. Is simple as that, well that is me. =D

Hmm, about the brightness I switch is on to auto. No complaint about that. =D

For the battery size the blame should go to HTC. I still can't get it why do they even want to put such a small battery size in a big screen phone which surely will use lot's of battery power. They maybe have their reason to do so or maybe they doesn't want to make such a perfect phone so that the DHD wouldn't affect the sales of other HTC model. Maybe we all should email HTC and ask them about this. lol. Nothing is perfect in this world ya, so everything will have its pros and cons. If you don't like DHD or any other phone sell it off and get IP or whatever that suits you rather than complaining how bad the phone is bla bla bla. Is your decision to buy the phone without doing any survey and even if you did why do you still want to buy the phone? You knew that there is a battery problem and yet you bought it and come in Android forum to start a complaining thread. You should blame your own self for making a bad decision, sell off the phone and start a new life with your IP4 without any problems again. You're happy, I'm happy, everyone happy. End of case. LOL.

You say that its all my mistake from buying the phone. I'm an early adopter and ordered the phone over a month before it was released so there was limited research that could be performed. I had to rely on HTC's figures which showed the DHD getting better battery life than the desire. Obviously i realised the battery was just as small but i read that the new chip etc. increased battery life which is a heap of sh!t.
 
Music syncing. IOS and Itunes are a PITA compared to the simplicity of drag and drop files in Android...and symbian for that matter.
I use an Iphone4 and Desire HD. Not jailbroken or rooted.
 
Why do people hate iTunes soo much?

It lets you edit the songs ID3 tags, add album artwork, lets you backup your iPhone, browse the biggest online music/apps store and download....just plug in iPhone and then iTunes auto syncs, just drag and drop the file into iTunes and it will auto sync again. Much easier than drag and drop to SD card.

Why do you have to have it?
If you like iTunes, that is great. But what should I do if I don't want it?
That is the trouble with Apple. They want people to do it their way, and not have any other option. That is the reason why I don't want to become a sheep following Steve Jobs and am getting the Desire HD.
 
^Thats fine with you but remember that iPhone changed how smartphones are now. Capacitive multitouch screens, pinch to zoom, coverflow in iPod app, a decent mobile OS, app stores, a good web browser, digital compass, gyroscope.......all were on the iPhone first.

i can see in 2011 or 2012, manufacturers making phones with Lithium Polymer batteries and super high res screen which are on the iPhone 4

I've been using my IP4 all day, had auto brightness on, bluetooth and wifi on all day, was downloading apps etc. and its still at 70%. The same usage with wifi and auto brightness on the DHD would have me at between 15-30% right now.

A couple of you have mentioned things like "turn the widgets off" and "its better because it has a removable battery". Whats the point of having widgets if i have to turn them off? Whats the point of having a removable battery when you can't upgrade it with anything better (given time you might be able to but atm you can't)

It's just the little things that get to me and i can understand that for the kind of person who always has a charger handy, doesn't go out and crash at friends houses etc. and uses the extra functionality of andrioid then the DHD would be a better phone but for me the IP4 is the phone i'll be keeping.

PS: If anyone wants a barely used DHD that has had a ZAGG protector on it it's whole life then shoot me a PM.

Weird I leave my wireless only on when I need to use it maybe 2 hours a day. I don't use blue-tooth for anything.
I keep sync on and have 5 different email addresses. I play usually about 2 hours of games a day and browse the web 2 hours a day. I have had my phone for a month and have yet to have to charge more often then at night when I sleep. I also have the brightness at auto. I also sync my outlook email and calender from work. Oh ya and I run live wallpapers as well.

I have never had an iphone but have friends who have them and I hate the interface. Being able to customize my phone with out hacking it and set up widgets is why I bought the the Desire HD instead of an iphone.

I do use battery saver.

I play a lot of the gameloft games and they are very intensive and tend to use more battery. so if i play them more then a few hours then i have to plug it in.
 
I think this debate is more about operating systems than phones. Android versus ios4. If you are talking phones, in my opinion the iPhone wins. Simply stunning to look at and a higher res screen despite it being smaller. I'm an apple man through and through. Use there computers for work and have two laptops at home and ipods etc. That said i own DHD, when it comes to phones I prefer Android, more flexible and open. My ideal scenario would be an iphone 4 running Android. The DHD is ok, but the icons and widgets are clown size on the screen. You really should be able to make smaller and utilize this huge screen better.

And as I hav egot experience with Iphone 3Gs and Desire HD (for about 15 days) my comments about Desire HD compared to Iphone :

General

- Volume buttons are so close to each other which causes you not make sure If you did what you want (increase or decrease). You always feel that you should see with your eyses that you pressed the correct one.
- Upper left Power button, that sucks. Not only it's a different concept but also it's so close to volume buttons as well. It's so likely that you accidentally press volume buttons when you try to press only power button and that makes you crazy.
- 3.5 mm jack under the phone, that sucks as well. Once you wear headset and want to play with your device vertically or horizontally it's always bothering you (especially on vertically times)
- 4 menu buttons are crapped once you try to do something on the screen, there so many times I accidentally pressed one of them and find my self on search or home screen.
- I have not seen any device which have got a terrible battery cover before. I start to pray not to break it every time I try to open.


Audio

- Everyone should accept that this phone's speaker sucks. It's not loud and not quality as well. I got my friends Iphone near my Desire HD and played same quality songs and played same games and Desire HD need so much way to jump.
- Music quality is crapped again. If you are on headset maybe you have a chance for an enough quality with SRS effects but without them quality is zero compared to Iphone.
- I am not even bothering to talking about EQ settings which are enable only when you are on headsets, they really really suck.
- Speaker on the back of the phone. I wonder who might have got that brilliant idea because it should be at the bottom or on the top of the device so that the user himself can hear that crazy low sound.
- FM Radio reception is too bad. FM Radio openning / closing time is so long. You have to use wired headsets (for antenna) to work FM Radio.
 
After owning iPhones for the last few years I jumped ship and got myself a DHD. In my opinion the DHD is way better! I never liked how Apple told you how you must do things and I hated iTunes! Dont get me wrong I think the iPhone is an awesome bit of kit thats why Ive had them for years but the DHD is why better in my eyes. Im loving it and cant ever see me owning another iPhone.

Also Im getting just as much battery life out of my DHD as I did with my recent iPhone 4.
 
i had an iphone 3g for 2 years and sold it after getting my dhd 2 months ago. I think i prefer the dhd too. i dont really get the debate that ios is easier to use than android. Unless your a drooling imbecile theres nothing hard getting to learn android. Id never ever used an android device until i got this, couldnt be simpler. from that video he sounds like an apple fanboy and his reasons between the two were a joke.

the only flaw between the ios and android is the quality of gaming, but i never used games much so not bothered.
 
DHD because of the openness of android and the ability to just move around the icons. It allows users to sideload apps, use alternative home screen replacements and the notifications bar is awesome.
Iphone does do somethings like music and multitasking better but I hate the tiny screen.

IPhone4 does not do multitasking better, the multitasking sucks on the IPhone4, I just shut my mate up few days ago when he thought the multitasking on DHD was same as the IPhone4, well it wasnt, it was better :)
 
Surely the best phone is the one that does what you need in a way that you feel comfortable with? If, on the other hand, you are looking for a phone that does fancy things in a way that you will try to impress your friends with, then I'd suggest you are less interested in the phone as a tool and more into status gadgetry... a great way to spend loads of money on an endless quest for next month's bleeding-edge must-have gizmo.

I chose the Desire HD because it best met my requirements. A friend was persuaded to upgrade to a touch-screen phone (which one is irrelevant) but she couldn't get on with either its size or the touch-screen keyboard. She uses her phone for calling and texting, as well as taking occasional pictures and videos if her real camera isn't to hand. Having had the touch-screen phone slip out of her grasp into her mug of coffee (because it was too big for her hands), I suggested maybe the candy-bar format Blackberry might suit her better - largely because she actually prefers a traditional phone keypad rather than a full QWERTY keyboard. It's not a phone I'd have chosen for myself, but she is very pleased with it.

Horses for courses! If you are pleased with your phone, then just enjoy it - there is no single 'best' phone.
