iPhone 4 to Galaxy Nexus, what am I getting myself into?

I've absolutly loved sense with the Eris , Incredible , Thunderbolt but my hate the fact that updates take so long, I have ended up using CM on every device with short lived trips back to Sense. There is a lot of thing I miss from Sense and it is much more smooth then CM7 but I just prefer a more pure android . I am getting ready to upgrade my work EVO to a Nexus S and my Thunderbolt to a Nexus Galaxy for these reasons

I'll confirm... Google maps & navigation ROCK. I wouldn't even think of going back to my standalone Garmin GPS.

The way I explain it to friends is like this... If you cannot build your own PC from the ground up, do not go Android.

That's a bit strong, IMO. I'm a geek in that I love this stuff, but I'm not very accomplished. Still, I love my TB and get around fine in Android. Not as easy as iPhone, granted, but not scary at all ...

I actually do build all of my own PC's, so apparently I passed that test lol. As others below your post defended that Android is easier to use than that, I get what you were trying to portray.

Back with my original Windows 5.0 phone (Cingular 8125) (wow that was a long time ago.) I was heavily into customizing it and modding it. I actually had that phone running nice a smooth and I loved it, until someone stole it off my desk!!!

Back in 2007 with the original iPhone I jail broke it, with some of the early jailbreaks available, all of which completely killed my battery life, I never bothered to jailbreak my iPhone again from 2007-2011.

I think a big deal to me with Android is the freedom I can get for tinkering with the device, without having to "jailbreak" it, but from the sounds, I will be trying to "jailbreak" my android to get free tethering after all.

Yes, I am tired of Apples limitations, but in all honesty the main driving force, BIGGER SCREEN!

Every time I hold a 4.5" + phone, I'm in love (don't twist my words you perverted lurkers!)

This is me too! I'm going from an iPhone 3GS to a Galaxy Nexus. I was waiting for the iPhone 5. A colleague showed me his HTC Sensation, and since then, I've really hated my tiny iPhone screen. (BTW Not one of my desktop computers has less than 27" of screen).

I'm also sick of Apple's limitations. I'm a dev and I'm sick of good ideas being met with "if only Apple would allow me to do that".

For people to say that Android is as easy to use as an iPhone is just crazy. Android will work for everyone and I know lots of people who use them and love them. if you give someone an iPhone who has never used a smartphone, they will probably be more efficient than on an Android in the same time span.

Android may not be as easy to use initially compared to the iPhone, but you don't need to know how to build a PC from the ground up in order to use it. I bought my first smartphone last year and after toying with it for a couple of days, I was excited to see all of the things I could customize and play with.
