IPhone convert -- SGIII or HTC One X?

I'm in exactly this same situation too.

Although the LG Optimus 4X HD is added to my shortlist along with the HTC One X and SGS3.

Don't get me wrong I think I'd be very happy with the S3 but there's just this nagging thought in the back of my mind that I'll hate it and wish I went with the HTC/LG.

I have next to no experience with Android phones except the few my friends have got (3 x SGS2's and 1 HTC Sensation) and what I really like about his HTC and the HTC One X is the build quality and feel the SGS3 would feel like a children's toy compared to the premium materials of my iPhone 4S and the HTC One X.

Uhh, you do realize the HTC One X and S3 are both made from the same material? It's called, poycarbonate aka thermopastic polymer or Lexan. Both sport Corning Gorilla Glass on the front. So what premium materials are you referring to with the HOX over the S3?

And the iP4S is metal and glass. Not exactly premium stuff either. Not like titanium, liquid metal or carbon kevlar.

Yeh I realise that.

Alot of reviews mention the premium weighty feel of the HTC and superior build quality, whereas alot say the light, plasticy body of the S3 feels a bit cheap.

A phone would never be made of titanium, liquid metal or carbon kevlar (Unless you bought a Virtu or JCB phone maybe) so that points redundent.

I personally think a phone that doesn't cost thousands of

I think there's another great point that everyone above me seems to be overlooking:

The SGS3 (or any high end Samsung phone for that matter) is a much better transition from the iPhone to Android than any HTC phone would be, simply because iOS and TouchWiz already have so many aesthetic similarities. Its very easy for an iPhone user (like the OP) to adapt.

In fact, that's basically been proven by Apple's many lawsuits against Samsung for "copying."

I do not intend this to be mean-spirited, but you seem to not be aware of what is and isn't out there with regards to smartphones. You think a phone would never be made out of liquid metal or kevlar or even titanium? Check out the Motorola Droid Razr for kevlar.
The next iPhone is still rumored to either be made of liquid metal or a portion of it will be made from it. Apple already uses liquid metal for the sim release key. And liquid metal is made from amoung other things, titanium. An all titanium body is probably unlikely, but that doesn't exclude titanium being utilized in parts.
You also contradicted yourself in your last two posts, which leads me to the conclusion you haven't really done much research on this topic.

It's hard to explain. But I love the weighty premium feel my 4S and would like the same premium weighty feel and clinical finish from my next phone, it doesn't have to be made of metal and glass but I just want it to feel right in my hand and not like a children's toy.

The simplest way to put an end to your concern is by telling you that the S3 does not feel in any way like a children's toy.

I too thought I wouldn't like a lighter bigger phone, coming from a HTC Desire which felt very solid in my hand.

Well the good news is that even though the S3 is 2g lighter than the Desire while being bigger, it doesn't actually feel light. It is relatively lighter, yes, but still feels heavy enough in my hand to have a premium feel. The glass front and the glazed back feel nice, and not at all cheap. In fact the finish on the back of my marble white S3 reminds me of enamel.

I don't know what reviewers were talking about when they said it feels cheap and plasticy. I know it has been an attack leveled at the S2 in its time, but I think this phone is in another league again, materials-wise.

I cannot speak for the blue version, but my white S3 feels awesome.

(As an aside, modern bicycles are lighter than earlier ones, but they don't feel like children's toys do they?)

Thank you, FINALLY someone that understands what I'm getting at in this thread.

OK, I was wrong there are plenty of liquid metal/titanium and Kevlar phones out there it seems.

I didn't contradict myself in my original post either, I was simply saying the SIXAXIS PS3 controller to me personally feels terrible in my hands, like a children's toy. Whereas the xbox 360 controller feels meaty, weighty and sits great in my hands like a premium adult gaming controller.

I was trying to use that analogie and apply it to the way I approach getting a new phone.

And no I haven't done much research in the topic of what phones are made out of kevlar/titanium/liquid metal. The majority of phones are made out of plastic/polycarbonate or glass/stainless steel as far as I'm aware.

I wasn't making the point that the phone has to be made out of a premium material to be good, I just want it to feel like a premium adult product in my hand and not a kiddy's phone is all.

You might wanna do some research there are already phones with those materials. Plus weight does not equal premium quality. Never understood how all glass makes iPhone premium. Makes It delicate to me if you have to put a huge case around it because any drop and it breaks.

Personally hate phone cases, and have NEVER used one on any of my iPhones.

I dropped my iPhone 3G years ago and had to have it replaced, but that due to my own stupidity, dropping it on concrete and me being extremely drunk rather than the phone's lack of resilience, and even then the whole phone worked like normal, just the touch screen was smashed.

Just because its heavier Doesent mean the body is better the s3 is built good as for the iphone 4s and it beeing glass and metal Doesent make it all mighty and well built if you let the s3 drop and the iphone 4s drop I think you will be heading for the apple store while the s3 will be just a little scratch and ding. I don't know what the ps3 controller had to do with this but just because its lighter than the xbox controller Doesent mean the ps3 wont survive a drop or last as long. And Its your choice I personaly am done with apple no matter what but its your phone and your decision and your opinion

I'll point you to this Youtube video, where I think you'll find the 4S fairs better than the S3 as it actually still works after the drop whereas the S3 just packs up completely :)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7e9ebi41Wc

As a person who repairs phones for others, I caution you to base any decisions on a single drop test such as this. I have fixed many an iphone that, due to hitting the right spot when dropped, failed to work at all afterwards. This video is ONE example of such results. Hardly a sufficient sample size.

I'm curious about the S3 drop test. The battery cover popped off. So, isn't reasonable that the battery disconnected temporarily? I didn't see her try to long-hold the power button to see if the S3 would boot back up.

So lesson learned: Do not drop smart phones onto concrete. Should be easy enough to remember :p

Removable battery and expanded memory are all the things I need to make this a winner. However more power and a smoother experience also helps.

I think iphone is lacking on performance my brother got one on sprint a week ago and when he would play temple run his would lag and would freeze so he took it to apple and got a new one and it was the same thing so he finals got the photon

I had a 4s and it wasn't any smoother than my maxx is and also it would frequently force close and kick me out of apps. Honeslty my iphone 4 I had when it first came out had less issues than the 4s did and IOS was pretty bland compared to android and what it can do.

And it calls its self a smart phone

Im honestly am done with ips ever time I say its going to be worth it I end up trading for an android phone nd their has never been an android I regret getting

i think that the camera on the ONE X is more superior than the one on the SG3, the images are more crisp. I still love my SG3.

Never had an iphone so cannot comment on them, but I have had 2 android phones... A Galaxy Ace and a Galaxy S3, both have been superb.
