iphone or android?

If the iPhone does come to Verizon, will you keep your android or go with the iPhone?

You are all comparing the iPhone as it stands on the AT&T network. When it comes to Verizon, it will be superior to the iPhones of any other carrier. Just wait until this 4G iPhone is announced and see what it brings to the table. Then formulate your opinions.

4G is going to be a big boost up from the 3GS. Apple won't sit idly by and let Android get ahead. What we've got here is a smaller-scale Intel vs. AMD, NVidia vs. ATI.

Omg my worst fear is coming to fruition! The hybrid iPhone/Verizon fanboy....oh noes! I didn't think it would happen until 2012 argh

The android is very young compared to the iPhone. The real power of the droid OS is the fact that its opening huge doors for developers. No licensing costs, a free SDK, and an open market. Plus the base language is java, a fairly simple language. In my opinion, in a few years android will be to mobile phones what Microsoft windows is to PC's. The OS is so robust, you can transform almost any part of the phone by replacing the native apps with apps of your choice.

Android ftw : )

Fixed:
If Apple makes the iPhone for Verizon, I'm all over it. Android just isn't right for me.

not to mention they both use essentially the same barebones linux framework. Iphone OS = Android + Security + bloat + Hardware lockdowns...

Thanks but I fancy myself a savvy enough user to prevent myself from ruining my phone, not to mention I don't have to shop in a pre-distressed clothes store to own an Android device.

I love my Android... with all its faults and stuff...Verizon has very poor customer service, and they are a rip off...
I had to also return my Blackberry Curve 4 times before they upgraded me to a Tour.. which worked out fine for the small amout of time I had it...

Class Dismissed.

First and foremost, I came to Android SPECIFICALLY to get away from my iPhone. I hated that thing for so many reasons, and loved it for but a few.

Also, the iPhone has been rumored to be coming to other carriers for years. Not days, not months, YEARS.
Rumors kill kittens.
Have proof or just
STOP IT.

Have you ever seen that clip with Bob Newhart on Mad TV?

That is what I mean.

You do know that AT&T had Apple to a two-year contract, right? The reason rumors are picking up is because the two years are just about done. This June. So if you want proof, you don't look at stuff from the past two years, but instead news after or just before June.

How long has the iPhone been around? More than 2 years. 2007 was the original release date, no?
So the contract has been renewed.
Yes?
The point I am making is that I have seen rumors ant talk of Apple coming to other providers for a long time, and I don't care if they do. I really despise Apple and their practices.
I understand that not everyone here shares my opinion, but the life of the Apple-AT&T contract is another story. Just like all the other hearsay around here, I DON't BELIEVE IT TILL I SEE IT.
No offense meant, I just feel strongly about this. If iPhone on Verizon is what you want, then by all means, I hope you are right.

Everyone's phone in this thread would lose to an iPhone in a benchmark test. Stop kidding yourselves and stfu. No one cares anymore.

Idiot bringing up an old-ass thread.

The only good thing about the Iphone OS is the app store, that's it.

But the Android Market is growing each day so it's getting better. But Android in the future for sure. Steve Jobs can suck a fat one.

I love android, never owned an iphone, i know tha iphone works flawlessy, but its not as cusomizeable like andoid os. I really enjoy that about android. i would consider buying the iphone just to seek refuge from all the bugs and quirks of android. if i ever get an iphine i would jailbreak it. and from what i understand, you can un-jailbreak an iphone easily to prep it for warranty exchange. Its almost a tie for me. I know about 5 years from now android will be more stable. if android had 1 dedicated device with powerfull processor, like iphone that would work seemlelsy with future os upgrades like iphone does, then that people, would be the 1 device that will rule them all. I see people withe 1st gen iphones running current version of iphone os. thats heavy. my eris will not be able to sustain itself within the next two years i dont think. samsung galaxy s looks very promising, especially when it gets rooted. i dont know what evo is capable of other than 4g, but i can only see android get better. If iphone does not innovate, then theyll have to start filing more lawsuits against other manufactures using android os. my conclusion is that apple will make their os more open source and stay ahead of all the competition. Is there anyone else out there who is actually getting tired of the iphone os ui? Ive installed many iphone themes on my phone previously and am getting tired of it. Im starting to really like the android icon set (with the exception of a few iphone icons).

I see what you're saying, but people assume that the iPhone will just stay at a standstill while Android move ahead. It is possible, yes, but you have to assume that, theoretically, all businesses are about improving technology which will, in turn, increase profit.

There are dinosaurs today that are still living in their past successes. RIM and WinMo immediately come to mind. Android is the latest and greatest thing on the market right now. You tried to predict the state of Android in five years? You can't. No one can. No one can predict its state tomorrow. A lawsuit here, faulty hardware there can all bring Android flat on its green ass.

And that's what I don't understand. Why people feel that because Android is backed by Google it will never fail. Um, really? WinMo is made by M$. It hasn't failed, but it sure as hell isn't doing great right now. If Google pumps the money M$ pumps into WinMo, it too can stay alive for years. But will it be good?

Google is very innovative. Just like Apple is. They tweak the nipples of industry standards and poop on those that claim their product is a failure. The iPad was announced a few weeks ago. Remember everyone and their mama was an industry analyst? "Oh, the iPad is gonna fail. Where is its niche? Where's its market?"

Look at it now. In a year, everyone will have one. Apple products rarely fall on their asses. "Overpriced" Macbooks are still bought left and right by students, forget about the professionals that actually use them for real things.

All I'm saying is rumor has it HTC is coming out with a new OS, PalmOS is about to be bought, etc. Anything can happen. People are just too narrow-minded to admit Apple makes good stuff. Of course it isn't like Android. If it was, it'd ****ing be called "Android."

WinMo and RIM need to just slowly phase themselves out. We need new faces in the game.

Err... Apple has had a few major failures and was barely hanging on until a few years ago. Apple makes products of a high standard it's true but they are surrounded by an onslaught of competitors. Think of the Germans in WWII, they did well fending for themselves, but being surrounded they ended up on the losing side. Hell, I look at the iPad as their version of the jet engine Messerschmidt...
I hear some stores have a 65% return rate on iPads! Apple needs to open up or learn to play nice with others.

Are we going to argue semantics? I said Apple usually made good products. The iPhone is one of them. I'm no fanboy. I'd like to think o appreciate all technology regardless of its origination.

Most people don't know how to navigate their Settings menus on their phone. The rest have never experienced root access. They haven't experienced the "openness" of Android. How can they bash iPhones which can be jailbroken but their Erises can't?

You picking up what I'm putting down?

Can anyone here name one, just one, apple product that there isn't a less expensive, better mainstream product for, or shortly being released?

Check it out, $850 for a quad core HP 17" laptop with the same graphics chips of the MacBook Pro's but with 1GB of VRAM instead of 256MB, 64bit OS, and of course many more features that beat the shit out of the MBP.

For a lesser system, with a locked down OS, you'll pay $2100 + tax from Apple.

Their price point is an absolute joke for the level of current technology. Dell has been ahead of what they just released for months, and of course you can find dual core netbooks with the same graphics chips as the last generation of MBP's for under $500.

Basically, **** Apple, their walled garden, and their zealot fanbois.

All the hatred toward Apple i think is rather childish, it seems the android fanboys are just as bad or worse then the apple fanboys, when will we learn that there are all these devices out there and that is a good thing, and if you like an iphone you are not an idiot, you just like it, it works for you, just like if you have an android phone, you like it, that is it.

I am a PC person, I have a Dell XPS, Dell laptop, etc, I have an android phone, the wife has a BB, but we also have an ipod nano and a ipod touch. All of these devices work great for what they do, no complaints...

Agreed. I'm going to ask an Admin or Mod to look this thread over. There may be some rules violations in this thread and some of you might receive infractions for that.

to all those people that are turning this into a hardware fight - this poll and thread is PURELY OS. theres no way to say the eris can match the iphone's hardware. the eris is an entry-level android based phone. which is why the poll question is "would you stick with android", not "would you stick with your eris". i understand that tempers flare up when talking about someone people paid for, and people want to defend their buy, but there's got to be a limit to the amount of anger you bring to a forum.

this isnt the WoW forums. stop acting like 12 year olds on a sugar high and CHILL.

edit: and Caddy, the ipods, imo, are the only thing apple has done properly. their computer os looks like something that came from fisher-price toys, the iphone is so closed off its ridiculous, and the ipad is an oversized overprice ipod touch. but it could just be the PC tech in my talking - everything that the mac doesnt, windows does. and there ISNT an app for that, apple.

Being overpriced has never stopped people from buying a product. People that have had bad experiences with Windows have switched and a lot say they don't regret it and are never going back. Similarly, we have the Android fanboys here who have had their feelings hurt by the iPhone users they know and see. Now they're sour about it.

To become a respectable company is like becoming a respectable person. You bring yourself up by actually rising up, not pulling others down. Android does its own thing and Apple does theirs.

It irritates me when people bash something because of its price. Just because you can't afford it...
