Help iPhone plan work on Nexus 4?

I'm currently tied to a 3 year contract with my iPhone 5 using a nano sim card. I will be switching to the Nexus 4 when it comes out by buying it unlocked on Google's website.

My question is, can I ask my carrier Rogers in Canada to send me a micro sim card for my new Nexus phone? Will my iPhone's current plan work on the Nexus or do I have to re-sign a new 3 year contract or tell them I've switched phones? I will be giving my iPhone 5 to my sister so I don't need to cancel the contract if I don't have to.

Thank you!

The beauty of GSM is that you can swap out SIM cards whenever you feel like it without ever contacting your carrier. The only issue here is that you, like me, have to procure a micro SIM card. You should be able to go to Rogers and request it. They'll give it to you, maybe for free, maybe for a fee. But after that, you're good to go! Hope this helps.

Why buy and wait on an adapter when you can walk into the store and get one immediately? I don't know about Rogers, but on AT&T when I switched from my iPhone to my inspire 4g they swapped out the micro sim for the regular sim for free.

It's pretty simple really. If you plan on switching from your iPhone to the Nexus 4 every now and then, get an adapter. If not and you only want to use the Nexus 4, go to your carrier and get a micro SIM. It will either be free or just a few bucks.

And as far as I know, your current iPhone plan will work just fine with your Nexus 4.

Yeah paying a couple bucks for a nano-sim will not bother me at all. I won't be needing an adapter because I won't go back to an iPhone, I'll permanently give it to my sister.

What I fear is, after I buy the Nexus 4 online, and it arrives, I can't use it because I have an iPhone plan. Or I have to void my contract by paying lots of money in order to resign a new "android contract."

Would I be able to walk into any Rogers store, request to "buy" a new nano-sim and they can make one for me right away? Or do I have to call Rogers and wait for them to ship me one?

Also, is it suspicious to have signed a new iPhone contract just a few weeks ago and switch to a new phone..?

Nano-SIM is what is used in the iPhone 5 to save space, the Nexus 4 uses the slightly larger Micro-SIM. And you should be able to just go to your carrier in person and have them give you a Micro-SIM or pay a small fee.

However, if you want to make things slightly easier, you can just buy an adapter and then use your Nano-SIM in the Nexus 4. Then you won't have to go to your carrier to have the new Micro-SIM activated. Although you could still do that, and the only thing that might cost you a few bucks is the Micro-SIM. They shouldn't charge for anything else. I could be wrong on that though, but from what I have read about various carriers, that is generally how it works.

Also, you should have no problem running the Nexus 4 on your current "iPhone" plan. Either way, it should be a plan with minutes, texts, and data. Nothing specific to the mobile OS.

I agree. I think the only mobile OS specific plans are for Blackberry. At least, anyway, here in the US.
