Is a Core 2 duo PC faster than a Quad core android phone (S3) ?

I don't think the S3 is faster than a core 2 duo, since the processor in the S3 is ARM7 and the Core 2 is x86 or x64, but I may be wrong

The "Cores" are faster in a phone because it doesnt have as much to process as a computer does. Arm processors are cut down version to their cousins. A computer processor is capable of doing so much more than the Arm at this time. Which makes it a tad bit slower because of the more instruction set it has to go through comparatively

So my core 2 duo gives about 4Ghz processing power and an S3 gives about 5.6 (1.4 x 4) processing power yet still S3 loses?

Maybe the S4 will be able to run

Ghz isn't a measure of processing power... although ALL OTHER THINGS being equal the more Ghz the faster the machine goes.

For example my microwave oven is about 2.45 GHz, and that sucks at even playing angry birds ;)

The frequency of a chip, is a lot like the rpm of an engine. Its just the number of times a second it can do things. And the actual architecture of the chip determins what it can do etc.

Maybe I should stop listening to everybody on the internet. I was told that the Ghz are same on both mobile and PCS and that is what only matters. If they are equal, both (pc,mobile) are the same speed. Nothing else matters.!!! I wasn't so sure about it though. Thanks !

how much did you mean by 'tad bit' slower?

another question. So if we take an iphones's processor (1Ghz) and an Android's processor (1Ghz), are they also different? Apple is faster.

So it depends on the processor, what its designed to do, what resources its got, what its doingm and what its doing at the same time.......

There was a head to head matchup done before, but I can't find it anymore. Basically, it showed that a quad core A9 ARM chip (the one used in an international S3) is about as powerful as an Intel Atom processor from 2010, which says that a full core 2 duo is much much much more powerful than the most powerful cellphone CPU we have right now.
