Is Android 2.2-update1 on an Android Tablet real?

Hi all,
I was looking at an Android powered Tablet made in China.
They are confirming that it is running version 2.2.
But when looking at the Android version in the 'about phone' UI, it shows "2.2-update1".

Is this real? Or is it 2.1 with some 2.2 features?

I have attached an image they sent compared to another one I found on the web. Not sure if they are faking it.

Any advise would be appreciated, since I wanted to buy this soon.

Thanks
Manzi

It's highly possible... the manufacturer of the tablet has access to the Android image installed on the tablet. Theoretically they could set the version number in the build.prop file to whatever they wanted to set it to.

Thanks for your reply Martimus.

In other words you are saying that there is no such release as 2.2-update1, that you are aware of.. is that right?

1. According to your experience, what will you miss most, if you buy a tablet that doesnt have version 2.2? (assuming that it only runs 2.1)

2. If given the below config, can I upgrade this device to 2.2 myself?

Telechip 8902 ARM11 Core 800Mhz
NAND Flash RAM: 2GB
RAM DDRII 256MB

Thanks again!

Is there an official Google release called "2.2-update1"? Probably not!

Has some third party created their own release called "2.2-update1"? Very possibly...
