Root Is Android 4.0 on the Droid X possible?

Now that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich source code is available, is it likely that the Droid X will see some ICS in the future? Is it even possible, given the locked bootloader?
 
Well if CM doesn't include this, I'm jumping over to MIUI.

Man, I just flashed CM on my phone like two hours ago...
 
How is ICS possible with a locked bootloader? It may have the framework, but it won't be hardware accelerated and the browser will be just as shit as ever. I was sure we had to hope for motor to give us an ics kernel before we saw cm9 or anything else that's fully ICS, work on our phones.
 
the only thing about cm9 would be the fact we cannot run the kernel, and yes its the framework, but because of 2init, we will have the pure aosp, hence why there is no moto blur in cm7 right now for the dx.

But without the kernel, would we be able to have the same hardware accelerated interface? What about the ICS launcher? Also, will a 2nd init cm9 allow us to use the ICS browser with full acceleration?

Those three are my biggest concerns. The framework is nice since we can use ICS native apps, but I'm a little lost as to whether we get the performance benefits we would have if moto updated our kernel to an Ics one.
 
your correct in the fact we wouldnt get the accelerated benefits, as we are on a encrypted bootloader we cannot load a different kernel, basically it would be like the froyo gb days, be on froyo flash gb while still on froyo kernel, and then finally integrate the gb kernel into the newest build, i do not understand the logic behind what vzw and motorola do to not give us the encryption keys so that we can keep our phones up to date. it makes absolutely no sense
 
It could be Motorola not wanting to unlock the phones, or it could be Verizon not wanting them to. Yes, HTC and Samsung release their phones on Verizon unlocked, but Verizon and Motorola have a MUCH closer relationship, which could lead towards Verizon's wishes needing to be taken into account by Motorola.
 
however i dont understand the fact that you paid for your phone, and plan, and yet you have to take whatever motorola and verizon wish to do with it. no thank you. it should be unlocked when it is no longer supported

That's assuming the device is no longer supported

One can only hope...an ICS update for our phones would probably last me till my update date...

It would at least allow complete MIUI and CM to give us complete AOSP ICS...

Do you really think the X will still be supported? Nevermind, it doesn't matter. Even if it will be (which I highly doubt), it'll be at least six months before the X will get a poorly-tested version of ICS with a bunch of bugs that will require another update later on that will only fix one bug.

This is why I'm upgrading to the Nexus. No more paying a carrier to put bloat on my phone that I can't remove and then give me buggy updates over six months after stock Android gets them.
 
actually the X is a powerhouse of a phone, i dont think the ICS rom we would get would be buggy, i bet a few but not buggy. most of the devs we have do great work, and dont release half ass stuff

I think they were talking about an official Moto/VZW ICS release.
 
Because of the DX and Moto's refusal to unlock their boot loaders, I've decided that I'll never own a Moto device again, unless Google's partnership dials them back and forces them to stay more flexible. It's almost like Moto doesn't want repeat business, so Google taking over, maybe they'll just dissolve the brand and produce their own Nexus product line as a separate entity.
 
The new Nexus phone looks promising, but I'm inclined to wait and hope my DX gets CM9. Then, wait and hope for next year's Nexus which hopefully will be made by GooMo. Just never been impressed with Sammy's build quality, and I'm sure they'll figure out how to get better battery life out of next year's batch of 4g phones.

Ya know...I may just go this route as well. So far the X does everything I want and I think I can live with it for another year...especially if we get CM9. This year, I'll probably just get a super-tablet like the Transformer Prime. I can use that for just about everything (even phone calls) as long as I'm on wifi (time to start tethering ;)).
