I remember back when i got the original DROID on verizon, i was knows as "Sento Ruler-Of-CSU"

but now i see freaking 12 year olds running around with androids.

what do you guys think of this?

but anyways i said i was gonna get a new android, i have decided to go with the G2x, i read all the reviews about it and seems good to me, anyone want to object about the g2x before i order it?

Their parents don't have as much money as the 12 year olds with iPhones do.

Nice phone, but be aware it may not get an OEM upgrade from Gingerbread 2.3 to ICS 4.0.

Android is geared towards many different prices, you see 12 year olds with Android because they make cheap android phones that you can get off contract or if they are nice phones then their parents may have decent jobs and enough intelligence to know Android is better than iOS (cheap shot I know)

It used to be that it was prestigious to have a cell phone, as the price went down younger and younger kids started having cell phones, just like with any technology that gets accepted by the general public. I don't see how a child having an Android phone would do anything to hurt the OS

My 14 year old sister-in-law lives with me, and I bought her the Droid 2 Global shortly after it came out. Not because I want Android to lose its prestige, but I think that it was a good phone for her. That and if we spread our love for Android to younger kids now, when Android 8.0 comes out. They will hopefully still be using it.

As the "smartphone" becomes the "cell phone" there will be no prestige attached to any phone. Android will be the reason for the .$29.00 does not a prestigious item make.

I've heard lots (and I mean lots) of complaints with the G2x but I have no personal experience with it. I would suggest making GOOD use of that trial period if you do make the jump.

Prestige is a very sensitive word. It is typically so for iOS but for Google Android, they cater to various price tier and hopefully everyone can own and use one. Price should not be a barrier to stop someone from using something that can improve or make their lives easier.

I went Android at 14 and never regretted it. I hope you wouldn't have thought of me as a mindless 12 year old with not enough money to buy an iPhone, I had a job and made an informed decision

The folks who are familiar with Android and know what it provides won't think so. After seeing what ice cream sandwich brought to the table, Android is going to have a commanding positon in a lot of people eyes.(imo) ICS just raised the bar for Android.

Kids have Android phones because they are just a part of life now. I got my daughter a Droid Eris the week it was released. Then I got her a MT4G about a year ago. I will be getting her another new phone soon. It has nothing to do with cost for me. She takes care of her phones.

I think it'll only do that in people who are already Android's eyes really. for some reason people get awfully defensive when it comes to smartphones

Gawd, I hope it never had any. I always have fun showing my teenage sons how much metter my Android is for business than their precious iPhones. (Forgive me, I almost call them snotty teenagers. lol)

you're having fun showing them how much better it is is what the thread is about...

Tell you what. I've been using my Evo 4G as a wifi appliance/TV remote since retiring it.

If anyone would like the prestige of having that phone, actually used by me, I'll let it go for US$10,000. It doesn't feature a diamond studded case. But $10k can buy you plenty of bragging rights. :)

My 13 year old granddaughter is rocking a DX that she got for free (as in free, not a gift and she works to cover her part of the family plan). Personally, I'd rather she be learning and using Android, so I'm ok with her having a quality product rather than something crippled.

So there you have it - last year's really good Androids are now going for anywhere from free to $10,000. So, personally, I think that shows a wide range of prestige right there. ;)

lol :D

nah, I've seen so many people, young & adult, who get the latest phone 'cos that's what you're supposed to do, innit? But half these people, they don't even know how to use them. I had to explain how to put apps in the homescreen to an employee (with android), also I had to explain to an elderly gentleman how to use his dumb phone (basic budget nokia) that he got given by his grandkids.

So it's not about what phone you have, it's about what apps you have ;)

I even had to explain, to another employee, that no, he does not have WiFi because there was none available, so that he should switch it off . So many people leave BT on too.

In London Blackberrys are very popular with kids many of whom are not even in their teens. I remember a bunch of older kids complaining that there's no point getting a BB any more as so many youngsters have them.

So I kind of see what you're getting at. But at the end of the day we're adults and should have grown out of all of that. Who cares what other people are buying or thinking about a phone/OS. If it suits you go for it.

yeah, embarrassingly the riots were organised on BBM, which is the reason people buy them. My friends frequently inform me I haven't got BBM on my phone. well... they haven't got any apps and their phones are as powerful as my great aunt

Even more laughable with BB's. Someone, (Mummy?) is paying for calls, internet & B(i)S. Fools :D. Some parents must be getting contract phones & passing them on to their kids. If they don't really know how to use them, how would they know about tariffs?

That's a generalization though, some have old / dumb phones whereas some are quite smart & well into the modding / rooting etc.

Surely kids in London complaining about everyone having them, might also have something to do with BM going down a lot recently? Yoots can't organize bizniz like dey uze to innit :D

The only people who care about this stuff are those whose ego is tied up with what toys they own, whether it's a fancy car, expensive clothes or phone.

If an android device meets your needs, who cares that someone else also has one?
