Is anyone HAPPY w/ the VM/Optimus combo?

What STATE of the BBB did you file your Complaint with From Virgin Mobile (usually where the corporate office is located).?

Have not been very happy lately. Went 8 days without 3G, and it was only after I filed a complaint with the BBB and VM called me that I got it back. That was Monday, and it's been on and off since then. I already changed to Cricket for my mobile broadband after months of poor service.

Just called my Radioshack about possibly picking up a phone before my contract ends and he said that it would take more time because I would have to activate it myself. He also said there were 6 models brought to the store a couple days ago and were bought out fast. Luckily there are a few Radioshacks near me and I will try them all on April 14 if need be. Also hoping they will keep the $150 price tag by then, or else I might end up saying something.

I switched from Sprint to VM before my contract ran out, and it was easy to take care of it on the phone. A few minutes on hold, a few minutes talking to a person, and a couple of hours for the number to get ported.

If you are going to port your number, I am 99% sure you'll have to do it on the phone regardless of whether your contract is up or not.

If you don't want to keep your old number, it is probably just quicker to do it in the store, but it was honestly not as inconvenient as I thought it would be.

The penalty of ending your contract early might be enough to be worth waiting. You should find out what it is. Sprint's termination fee is pro-rated depending on how far you are into your contract. It was about $80 to end my contract 8 months early, but I'm saving $25/month on service, so sticking around to avoid the fee didn't seem financially prudent.

(For what it's worth, I have never had any trouble understanding any of the three or so customer support people I talked to at VM. They have a bit of an accent, but their English is fine.)

Ok, so you were having data issues, You filed a complaint with the BBB.

What was the outcome of that? Virgin Mobile called you and then what?

did you data work after that? what solution did they provide?

Any compensation??????? Details, please! :-)

It was in New Jersey. I filed that on March 18th, and they called me on Monday the 21st.

This is the first smartphone I ever owned. I still use an old flip phone through AT&T for my business. Been with At&t since 1990 when I had a Bag phone.Bought the V from RadioShack 6weeks ago and had plenty of problems with the 3G drops up until 10days ago. Had no 3G for about 2 days then low and behold it came back and has been about 98% up since, here in central Florida.

This is an excellent deal.... probably too good. I couldn't find a deal any where that has all the features VM has for the price. Once the data issues are strightened out I look for this deal to go up in price. We better enjoy in now.....

I'm perfectly happy. The coverage isn't as good as Verizon's, but if you don't mind a quick toggle once a day, it's perfectly acceptable for $25 a month!

At first I wasn't happy at all, but after 7 or 8 calls to customer service the issues with my phone arefor the most part gone...data drops are rare for me now. They said they updated something on my phone and it's been fine. As for the batter, my phone makes it from 9am thru till 1am usually before it gets to yellow and by that time I'm going to bed and it's on the charger. So yes, now I am very happy with my phone

Tried 3G today at 5pm and I was connected. Streamed Pandora from 5:30 - 6:30 w/ no drops.

5pm-ish was my only trouble w/ 3G. Perhaps those recent VM upgrades really did do something.

Well, they never said what they were going to do, only that once I got off the phone, take out the battery wait a few minutes and put it back in. I'd heard that several times, but did it anyway, and I had my connection back. As for compensation they didn't mention anything to me about it over the phone, but I do have an email saying there would be some kind of reimbursement.

And yeah, that's the same address. I just googled virgin mobile complaints with the BBB I think.

Service has dropped a few times, but for the most part it's within an acceptable level and I've only had to do the battery trick once or twice since then. It does go into 2G a lot though. :/

Thanks for the input. I ended up biting the bullet today and went to my local radioshack and bought the Optimus/$25 plan and got a new number. It's been kinda fun texting friends and havin em guess who it is. Then they find out it's me and they're all surprised. Love the new number over my old one.

Also bought a screen protector ($15 invisishield) but I am considering taking it back (still in the package) after I felt one in person after I came home. It's rubbery compared to the bare Optimus's screen and there are many air bubbles underneath. Do these go away over use/time?

Anyone out there considering it, go for it! No data drops yet.

Very! happy with mine. Fantastic price on the service and the phone is much better than I expected. I can live with the 3G drops occasionally as the phone voice service continued to work. Everyone that sees it is amazed at both the price of the phone and the service.

And non-contract phones keep the pressure on the service companies to keep the price competitive - they don't have you locked in.

Fosho I so love my Optimus V...i've had it for 4 days now and its awesome. Constant 3G connections....everything I need is right here for only $25 a month....hell yeah i'm pleased...lol. I paid $216 at Best Buy and it was worth every penny....battery life is a whole day, so to me thats good.

I'm ridiculously happy with mine. 3G goes out every now and then in Dallas, but it's only $25 a month, I can deal with it.

I think it looks like there are a lot of complaints, because people who like their service generally don't post about it a lot.

Lol! I can't seem to get rid of it off my hand. I play on
my phone when I go and come home from work, when I'm eating, when I'm sitting on the toilet :p

Go get it price matched v. the Radio Shack $149.99 through 6/4 price...

It's an OK low end Android phone. Better performance than I thought going in and good enough had I known about BEFORE buying an Archos A32 I wouldn't bothered with the A32... But really the plans and GPS/magnetometer sold me on it as I had been looking to buy a bluetooth dongle GPS to use w/tablets but with this it's like an all in one deal plus it has a removable batt...

Screen protectors: I haven't bothered with them for years. Never was able to get all the bubbles out on Palm PDAs, so I just stopped buying them and went bare. Tried again recently with a Nook Color and a cheapo protector, still bubbles that I couldn't get out so off it came. (CC trick never has helped me much either...)

I live in Atlanta, GA. I am extreamly happy with my phone, my 16 y/o daughter has one too, she is always on her and that is one thing she never loses, she can't seem to keep up with her house keys though. This is my first smart phone and I knew I would really like Android. I do have some network issues sometimes but usually I turn my phone off and wait a few seconds then turn it back on and then usually it's back. The battery issue I've kind of gotten used to, I just keep my charger with me, I charge it a work when I need to especially if I'm watching alot of news videos, other than that at home I'll plug it up keep on doing what ever I'm doing. At night before I go to sleep I fully charge it then, I turn the phone off until the morning. I can say there isn't anything that I don't like about this phone. Oh it takes great pictures and video as well. Also I will be going up to the $40 plan, 5 hours is definately not enough talk time each month.

I've had only occasional 3G drops, all easily fixed by quick switch to Airplane mode and back. No drops in the last week. Of course I lose it on my country-road commute (I stream music), but comes right back once I get into better coverage..

I'm fairly rural too (Ohio) and very occasionally lose 3G, airplane mode toggle and I'm fine, immediately.

In traveling around with my kid's sports teams, I've so far only lost signal once - in a super-mountainous very remote part of West Virginia. And even then only for a few miles.

I came from Verizon and actually have better coverage now (for calls, but 3G is about the same) than I did then, in a couple of key areas like my kids' schools.

I bought myself out of my Verizon contract way early - cost me $250. I sold my Incredible for $210. Paid $150 for my Optimus. Broke even in just over 2 months and am now saving $75/month.

My Optimus battery lasts way longer than my DInc's did, too.

The only things I miss with this Droid over the DInc is the flashlight (DInc has a flash camera and that flash can be used as a flashlight), internal memory (never bothered to move anything to SD on the Dinc because there's so much internal memory, now i have to pay attention and actually manage it), very occasionally wish I could see Flash in a web page but that's exceedingly rare, and that's all I can think of.

I am very, very glad I switched.

Overall a realyl decent device, even before the rooting adn custom ROM's it did everything i needed it to do and did it almost perfectly

Network connection is solid though at times it drops off for some reason. Toggle Airplace and 3G data and it bounces right back though

Have been using the Optimus since March (this is my third VM phone, been using them for YEARS), and VERY happy with it. I know there are better smart phones out there, but everyone else wanted at least $20-30 more per month for service to have theirs, and I couldn't see paying that much. VM's $25/month plan was only $20 more than I was paying for my old VM flip phone, and considering how much MORE I'm getting for that $20, in one small unit, I'm amazed. Used to have to lug my flip phone, my PDA, and my camcorder to get all the features that I get in just this one phone. I love the fact that I can easily pull it out at lunchtime, catch up on my tweets, finish up an ep of Doctor Who (either played back from my SD card or streamed from Netflix), and play a few rounds of Plants vs Zombies, all with one phone.

Occasionally, my 3G doesn't play nice (will have to give that 3G and/or airplane toggle a try to see if that works), but that's rare, and it easily recognizes my wireless network when I'm home.

(Home, by the way, is Raleigh, NC. 3G works 99.999% of the time here. Full disclosure though: not so much at the b/f's house in Concord, NC, service there is more iffy. Seems to work well in the morning, not so much in the higher traffic'd afternoon and evening.)

But given its track record, for the minimal bucks that I'm paying for it, yeah, VERY happy I bought this phone. Have not regretted buying it for one second.
