Is anyone's phone getting really sluggish?

My phone has been getting pretty quirky lately, and I haven't done a thing to it. Opening simple apps like gmail can take up to 5 seconds. I was unable to answer a phone call yesterday as well, I would swipe to answer and it would go to the next screen but it wouldn't pick up the phone. Oddly, the phone was usually pretty snappy up until a month or two ago (got it on launch).

I feel like maybe I should do a factory reset, but I don't know if that is the solution as the phone is totally stock. Any suggestions? If a wipe is needed, will a simple backup take care of everything?

Have you been doing maintenance on your phone (clearing cache, history, text messages, call logs, apps that you don't use etc etc etc)? Those things can add up really fast and munch your space down to nothing.
