Is Assistant a good addition or overkill? - Allo

Assistant does a bunch of wonderful things, and if you're not familiar with it, it's a smart chat bot attached to Google. I am wondering if Allo needs this built in? The hype is cool but seems to me this should be a more system wide feature rather than in Google's new messaging app.

To me I would rather not have that clutter and be able to share the data Assistant provides from a more core os service.

Shrug. Any thoughts?

Where would you suggest that it be instead of Allo?
It scans your texts and helps you with them, but it needs Allo to be able to do anything.

More system level like built into Google Now. Seems odd to me to flood chats/group chats.

They probably decided to not use Google since the app isn't really designed for that purpose right now.

It would be awesome if I could access it with Now on Tap, and it is possible that it could work like that in the future.

System level would be great, but they've already announced that Assistant will only be available (in fill form) for their new Pixel phones. It's a fairly nifty feature, but not useful enough for me to sit and chat with myself. I really don't see my friends using it any time soon. Probably going to delete it.

Why do they need a separate chatbot? They should just have Google searches that start with "okay Google" do those things. Then the assistant, like Google home, is built directly into Google itself.

I think that'd be WAY more useful IMO but I think Google is just competitively trying to cover all their bases because you never know what's gonna become popular in many regards and they don't want to lose any potential battles to competitors.

@Rob - Yeah, that is pretty much what I mean. It should just be a more global feature rather than cluttering up a chat app.
