Root is clockwork still there?

sooo... i made up a bootalbe clockwork sd card. i made a backup of the stock firmware(wich wasnt rooted) then flashed cm7 and gapps. used rom manager to flash clockwork to the internal memory, and replaced the clockwork sd with a normal one.

everything went fine :)

i decided for S&Gs to restore the factory firmware nandroid to see if it would work. it did.

now i cant boot to internal clockwork to restore cm7

not a big deal,i can move the nandroid over to the CW sd,pop it in and restore.

just curious if the internal clockwork is still there, since there doesnt appear to be a recovery image in the nandroid.

if its there,is it accessible without the bootable CW sd?

thanks for any info.

Your nandroid is stored on the sdcard.

I'd boot off the bootable sdcard, then before doing anything else, pop it out and insert your other sdcard, then go to backup/restore... restore and restore it.

thanks for the reply... not sure if you completely understood my question, tho. :)

so does the nandroid of the non-rooted 1.3 B&N firmware contain a stock recovery? or is clockwork still hiding somewhere in the emmc somewhere? or is clockwork just hiding in a partition that was overwritten by restoring the backup?

i got back to where i was by moving my nandroid from the nook sd card to the bootable clockwork sd card, popping it in to the nook, and restoring that nandroid.

im used to htc devices that have bootloader/recovery/data/system/ etc etc partitions. if i restore a completely stock,non-rooted nandroid in clockwork on my htc phone, the bootloader and recovery partitions are completely untouched. thats why i was a lil confused when i restored the stock nook firmware to find clockwork gone. :o

just trying to figure out how this thing works, lol. i think its slick as snot that all you gotta do when you get FUBARed is pop in the CW sd and reflash, restore,or whatever.

Yup, really cool when it boots off the sdcard first. Much harder to brick and a LOT easier to mod. Not sure if they'll keep that option with newer B&N tablets tho.

I'm no expert with CWR. I try to keep up with 3 devices now and each one is much different from the others. I think it just boots a different boot image, leaving the stock recovery intact. Once it loads it's memory resident, which would explain why you can swap sdcards. You can read up on it here: My Brain Hurts: Droid X Recovery (and Droid 2 too!)

aaaahhh gotcha. i do have some experience with a droid 2,so that does make more sense now.

lol 3 devices? wow... i pretty much only own htc stuff, and a nook now,but i do enjoy all things root, and am the guy all my friends call when they got phone issues. i was having a really annoying time with that droid 2,until i realized i was using an old bootstrapper  bought the new one and it worked like a charm ;)

once again, thanks for the nook/clockwork info

blast from the past! :D

i thot id bring this back up,as i recently got a hair up my *ss to restore, upgrade to 1.4.1 and root that, and see how i like my nook being a reader moreso than ta tablet.

remembering this experience(not being able to find clockwork after restoring a stock backup),i simply restored my stock 1.3 backup. downloaded the 1.4.1 update, let the nook fall asleep, and clockwork tried to install it

i ended up having to flash the 1.3 stock rom in order to get a stock recovery to properly apply the update.

im not sure what that means, but i thot i would share it :)

Hey Scotty. You must have been bored, REALLY REALLY BORED. :D

So, are you on 1.4.1 now? I've seen the stock reader and it's not for me.

lol, yeah i was itchin for somethin to do with one of my devices :D i would somewhat prefer cm7 but words with friends frequently FCs,and the youtube app doesnt work quite right,so i decided to see how well i might like it being more of a reader than a tab, since i got myself an htc flyer to handle the tablet duties.

i cant say for sure how long it will stay this way,but it was kinda neat to do it. :D

only issue i have with it,is the couple apps i moved to the stock app drawer dont open when i tap them. it just opens a "manage" box  they launch fine from the homescreen, and from the zeam app drawer so its not a big deal, just sort of peculiar

I wouldn't know Zeam if it sat on my face and wiggled. I used to use LPP, but it didn't play nicely with MIUI on my phone and decided to switch to VTL for my tablets, since it's more tablet based.

I think you need to play with a couple launchers and decide which one works for you.

I use go launcher on my phones. I've also used lpp,and adw ex,as well as the stock aosp and sense launchers.

Havent really experimented much with launchers on my flyer cause I like the stock HC one. :D

Zeam is the one that comes with the manual nooter files,I was under the impression you had to use it for certain things when running the stock firmware.

Maybe I'll restore cm7 and check out vtl launcher on it :p
