Root Is Gingerbread worth it?

Hi guys.

I'm not a fan of the cyanogenmod style roms to be honest. I really have liked the xtr series. I was curious if there exists a port of 2.2 with Sense in it. I ask because 2.2 has so many great things over 2.1, but I really enjoy Sense.

Well, you were asking about vanilla before, and Cyanogen is far, far closer to vanilla than any of the HTC based xtr ROMs are.

There are a couple of 2.2 Sense based ROMs but I have not tried them myself - they are not feature complete. They are all missing the camera, and I think most/all are missing WiFi - that is definitive requirement for me.

If you want a Sense based ROM, xtrSENSE, xtrROM, xtrRCMix, and Tainted Tenzo are, in my opinion, excellent ROMs are probably the best and most compatible that you will find for the Eris.

xtrROM isn't Sense-based, is it, doogald?

It does not have the Sense launcher or (I think) the HTC keyboard, but otherwise, yes, everything else is HTC Sense based - the browser, messaging app, people app (instead of contacts), HTC dialer, HTC sync capable, HTC sync with Facebook contacts, Peep for twitter, HTC Photos rather than the Gallery, the HTC camera. It's definitely not vanilla, that's for sure.

True. When I flashed XTR right before snagging GSB 2.1 I kind of felt like my phone was almost back to it's pre-root stasis, as far as how everything looked (Sense).

i ran this one for a day or so:
[ROM][BETA]Tenzo2.2.1 - Froyo-Sense, Cache2Cache, Wifi, GPS, CFSv8[11-21-10] - xda-developers

wifi works, but no camera. this is prolly the most complete 2.2 sense rom there is. for some reason its a huge deal to get the camera working with the 2.2 sense roms.

although the lack of a camera will keep most from using it as a daily driver,it was fun to flash and run for the day. i found it to be very smooth and stable. if the camera ever worked,it could easily be DD material.
