Help Is going from Gingerbread to Froyo possible without root?

I recently updated my phone manually to gingerbread. As much as I like the proformance boost, I don't like that some of my purchased apps aren't available for me to re-download. So I'd like to go back to Froyo 2.2.1. Can anyone point me in the right direction if this is possible?

i did. i was on droid-life getting forum help and looking at droidxforums for step-by-step help. i could forward a saved bookmark if i was at home.

okay. Silly question here but what does SBF mean and how do I do this???

find Rooler's guide to rooting on here, which has links to RSD Lite and the SBF file that you will need

SBF is an image file of the stock Froyo that you would use to flash your phone back to Froyo stock

unless, of course, you happen to have a stock nandroid somewhere?
