I'm sorry I meant it is still S ON. I used the HTCdev methodnot sure what you are asking. so you rooted your phone and you are s-off? isn't that what you wanted? how did you root your phone?
ok the htc dev method will not give you s-off. it will only unlock your bootloader. it is still rooted once you either flash the su file or flash a custom rom.I'm sorry I meant it is still S ON. I used the HTCdev method

here is the guide for more info:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html
2. Captain Throwback's method
3. TacoRoot method
In the guide that Ocnbrze posted, you can gain s-off by following the Captains Method:
or TacoRoot:
Just curious, is there a reason you want to s-off? Because with S-on/unlocked, you can still flash roms if that is only what you desire.
Have you installed a recovery and a rom/or superuser?
I think you need to be s-off to change the bootanimation...not sure.
But changing recoveries to AmonRa is well worth the switch CWM recovery I believe has been buggy with the Evo. Hence I've only run AmonRa or Smelkus recoveries.
You mention the 4ext recovery....not familiar with that recovery. Do you have the Evo4g or a or a slightly different model?
Just to be sure, can you boot into your bootloader screen, and post back here what is printed there?
*** UNLOCKED ***
SHOOTER XC SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.58.0000 eMMC-boot
Again, not exactly sure of my model
ok yeah that is a way different phone then the evo 4g. this forum is for the very first evo (aka og evo). what you have is the htc evo 3d or if you have virgin mobile it is the htc evo v 4g.
the guide i gave you is for the og evo. here is the guide you want:http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/695161-s-off-root-fix-everything-all-in-one.html
and here is the correct forum:EVO V 4G - All Things Root - Android Forums
unless you have the evo 3d from sprint which we also have a forum for as well as root guides if you need it.
for what it is worth, you should be able to change bootanimation as long as you have su and a custom recovery
edit: also if need be i can move this thread to the appropriate forum as well
I have the Evo V 4G then! I tried a couple methods for switching boot animations and they didn't work. Maybe its my recovery? Also that forum is helpful butttt I don't know if I'm up for trying this wire trick
so you do have recovery? are you on stock rom or custom rom? how are you changing the bootanimation?
and by the way i think i will move this thread to the right forum......ok?
Yes 4ext recovery. I'm on the stock ROM still. I'm attempting to change it by putting the file in system/media and naming it bootanimation.zip. changing the permissions to rw~r~r~. Booting into recovery and flashing bin_update.zip file then rebooting. Never works though! I'd appreciate that, thank you!
ok moved and now where are you getting the bootanimations from?
i did some research and some are flashable. have you checked out over at xda? they have a wallpaper and theme section. now they call it the evo 3d, so you have to be careful with flashing something that was made specifically for the sprint version vs the virgin mobile version.
I'm getting them from the app "Boot Animations"
Installing a boot animation fails.
Android has a few places where boot animations can be installed to. It may be that your install location isn’t correct. You can select different install locations by clicking menu >> Install Location inside the app. The app also can help you find your install location by clicking menu >> Preferences >> Find locations.
Please make sure that the boot animation matches the resolution of your device or is smaller. Re-sizing the animation doesn’t always work and sometimes causes a blank screen rather than a boot animation. Some manufactures (e.g. Samsung) don’t use the standard format for boot animations. For devices that do not support the original format you will need to install a custom kernel which supports the standard boot animation. Flashing this ZIP in recovery will fix the issue on most Sumsung devices. Please make a current nandroid backup before flashing. ROM Installer may be used to flash the ZIP file.
Unfortunately, We don’t own each Android device but we have tested installing boot animations on as many devices as we can. We will continue to do our best at making the install process as smooth as possible.
never heard of that app. but i found some here:Collection of bootanimations....I make | EVO 3D | XDA Forums looks like some are flashable
also here is a search i did over at xda:xda-developers - Search Results
i would try those instead while i do some research on that app
ok so this is what i found on the dev's website ( http://jrummy-apps.com/faqs/ ):
try doing the suggestions in the first paragraph and see if you can get the app to work.
personally i like to do things thru xda with actual files. i hate it when an app does all the work for you. it is the easy way out. i find it more educational and more fun to do it when you have to flash or install the bootanimation yourself......but that is me.
