Is it bad that I like Touchwiz?

I've been playing with my girlfriend's new Galaxy S4 and I find the interface to be very intuitive and easy to use. I actually like most of the stuff Samsung has crammed into their Android skin, especially all the "S" gimmicks. I like it so much that I'm actually considering buying a Galaxy Tab 3 over a Nexus 7. I find stock Android too boring and simplistic.

.. and the problem is ..?

The whole point of having choice is that you get to make a choice :D

If you like it, go for it!

Yes it is great (in my opinion). I get why others would have liked more available space instead of all their software. I think that if people would try the samsung apps, that they will find apps that they will use more and more.

On my galaxy s advance I didn't use samsung apps, just because I didn't try them, now on my s3 I use apps like s planner, samsung appstore, s memo,...

I didn't like it, but there is no reason that you can't. It's all about choice and personal taste

exactly! I prefer touchwiz instead of HTC sense and for many that will sound strange. But like you said it's personal taste.

I prefer the new Sense on the HTC One to TW or stock, but my experience with Sense on my old Wildfire S was resoundingly negative... lol

There are aspects of both TW and Sense that I like. TW has the power controls in the notification bar. Sense has the best widgets. Currently, I am using a Galaxy S3 with TW and I'm using Nova Prime Launcher.

Honestly, I kinda like TouchWiz apps too. It just looks ugly (homescreen and icons). So I just use Nova Launcher but keep the stock ROM. That way I get the TouchWiz apps but the Nova homescreen and app drawer looks. LOL.

Actually Sense has notification power controls now (in the most recent versions).

Ironically I'm using Sense, but none of it's widgets, because they only work with the Sense launcher. That's relevant for this discussion because the TW launcher is only one part of Touchwiz.

But with my previous device I got rid of the earlier Sense very quickly indeed! ;)

There's not allot wrong with touchwiz, only reason I don't use it is the lag.

Interface could use an facelift also, but it's more important that they fix the lag.

Really? I don't find it laggy at all on my dual core devices. It's not lag as much as it's slower than others. But I think that's just the default animation settings since it's set to have slower animations than default Android. I haven't tried changing the animation speeds though, I kinda like it. Lol.

I hated it because I was using a Galaxy S which was super laggy. Also felt a little cartoonish. I like the appearance of stock android so much more. I felt like TW followed the iOS layout a little too much IMO.

I thought it was alright when I had a Galaxy S, though when I moved to the Droid Charge I was mortified. The whole theme was brown colored and was just hideous. The lag that people talk about was very prevalent on older devices, and it annoyed me to no end that it was so bloated that the Galaxy S didn't get updated to ICS or later, but the Nexus S which was identical to it hardware wise made it up to 4.1.2. I do agree that things have gotten better, and it is very intuitive for those who aren't real tech smart.

It a specific issue with the galaxy s4, touchwiz was actually pretty good on previous devices with the exception of the first Galaxy S.

Not sure if it's fixed on the Note 3, I hope it is.

I haven't used Sense since I had the HTC Desire Z. Switched to the SGS3 last July.

When I was using my DZ, I would use a widget for auto-rotate. I also really liked the HTC clock widget as well as the HTC Twitter and Calendar widgets. Sense handles merging of contacts really well. It does its thing and asks me to merge contacts. I didn't use alternate launchers at the time as I didn't feel the need to. I did hear that Sense widgets don't work on alternate launchers.

On my SGS3, I like having the auto-rotate control in the notification screen. I find it convenient to be able to toggle it without having to leave the app. I had to go to the home screen on my DZ. I use substitute widgets for the Sense widgets, but I just don't feel that the ones I have found were as good. They were adequte and do the job. Contacts is something I don't like about TW. I have to manually merge them and there is a limit on how many contacts I can merge. With the larger screen size, I use an alternate launcher to make more efficent use of my screen real estate. I got rid of the app dock that you commonly see at the bottom of home screens on most phones. I then configure my home screens to have 6 rows for objects. On my DZ, I had to use all 7 home screens. On my SGS3, I only need 5.

I'm very happy with TouchWiz and I have thoroughly enjoyed it in all my Samsungs, GS2, GS3 and GS4. I find TouchWiz to be highly functional e.g. the Multi item clipboard where you can store multiple bits of text and images without worry about losing them. I love S Memo especially now that it can sync with Evernote, I often take notes so I have the S Memo widget in the 2nd homescreen waiting for my note. I also like Samsungs clear memory option if you go into the task switcher, tap the pie chart at the bottom left then tap RAM tab, allows me to clear whatever is running in the background. I also like the Yahoo Stocks and Yahoo News widgets Samsung bakes in, very informative and useful.

S Planner (the Calendar) is good to, same with the Call Rejection and SMS Rejection options, and then theres the motion and gesture options like Smart Alert where the phone will vibrate if you take it out your pocket or take it off a table when you've missed a Call, SMS, Email, text etc... and also Direct Call where the phone auto dials the Contacts you're looking at if you put the phone to your year.

The TouchWiz Music player is fantastic to, loads of customization from extended equalisers to audio range, adapting audio to your ears, speed etc... Samsung think of EVERYTHING :D

Lastly, the call sound personalisation which I've set to Clear, Samsung allow you to truly control your experience with TouchWiz. :)

People gettin too mixed up with OS and UI tbh.
Both UI stink imo. I cant speak for Sense enough but im sure it has lag due to niche features, same as TW.
They both look ugly but TW is wose with those cololours and NO a launcher wont change that, you still have the notification panel and settings menus etc etc.
If they had any "sense" theyd add a theme selector like the aosp roms that can change the whole look.. not just home and app drawer :)

Their OS should have like an aroma installer so you can pick n choose all that gimmicky crap riding on android's back slowin it down

I actually like the touchwiz colors of a subdued greyish blue and blacks. LOL. Even the icons I can tolerate. It's just the number of rows and columns that irritates me. There's a lot of empty space going around and oversized widgets or icons in some areas.
