Help Is it even possible to use the DInc as a GPS?

I keep trying, but I can't get it to work. Obviously the GPS part of the equation works. Google Nav is a serviceable GPS program. It's not fancy and it's not the best in the world, but it's serviceable. I know there are other apps out there that are probably better. That's not my problem though.

My problem is that the thing will not freaking charge while I'm GPS. I'm running the Business Sense ROM, but I've had the issue in other ROMS as well. I plugged it in today, it looked like it was charging, then it stopped apparently and in an hour or so of driving, my battery went from 100% to 82%. To me that's unacceptable. If I had a 3-4 hour drive ahead of me, my battery would've been dead.

Is there any way at all to make this phone into a reasonable GPS replacement? How do I get it to charge properly in the car?

When it's charging in the car, and you go to Settings › About › Battery, what do you see for status? If you see Charging USB (or something like that), you should look into a different charger that allows full current (so you see Charging AC - or something like that).

Charging has been a problem since Froyo, but i still manage to get a (slow) charge when using GPS, and definitely don't lose battery life.

I can't say from experience, but I think I remember people saying that the November OTA update allowed faster (compared to the 2.2 update) charging so that battery didn't still drain while running the GPS. I haven't taken any long trips to see for myself, but the times I have been using GPS and had the phone plugged in, the battery charge was higher afterward. Does that ROM have the November update in it?

Perhaps try a kernel geared toward battery life and a faster recharge? I'm surprised business doesn't work with the packaged kernel though. I wonder if the charger itself could lead to varying success.

Your phone is using battery faster than it is charging. You basically need the November OTA which fixed this issue.
