Help Is it possible to always connect to 3G/4G/LTE

Murtillon

Newbie
If i root my phone is there some kind of tweak where ill be able to connect to 3G/4G/LTE speeds only? I keep getting "E" speed. Even if i switched my phone to the s2 i get 4G speed. I've been getting E for atleast 2 weeks. I've called T-mobile and what ever they told me it still never worked.

I did and it still didn't work. I talked to Samsung and T-Mobile and still nothing. They keep telling me its the sim card.

If its still under warranty id take it into the store and show them then hopefully theyll fix or replace it

I don't think my note 2 can do that.

Yes it can unless your carrier removed the function. Even my 3 year old Galaxy S had that. My S3 mini has it, and it's not in the same league as your phone. Go to Settings, Wireless and Network, More Settings, Mobile Networks, Network Mode. Choose the one that doesn't include GSM.

It also is signal strength.

If you have that setting for network, you can change it. TMO is messing with their towers. I go between H and 3G. I have "use only 2G networks" on the Nexus 4. If you are borderline on range you might wind up with Edge. I've mostly wound up with Edge roaming, or on a non-TMO phone. Phones were quadband, but there was some slight difference. I'd bought unlocked phones from Amazon.

Where did you get the S2? Did you check the bands? TMO is repurposing some 2G, etc.

One time TMO offered unlimited data, and throttled you back to 2G or Edge.

WARNING: This app can seriously F-UP your phone. Do NOT tinker with it or go outside of my recommendations unless you know what you are doing. It does NOT require root to F-UP your phone.

Install, open, and about 1/3rd of the way down, look for your current radio setting. Take note of the current setting, open the drop-down menu, and write down all available settings. Please report back with those and I can make recommendations on which one(s) to use.

So it's a Note 2 that won't connect to 3G/4G in the United States, it's only connecting to GSM/EDGE, and that's why it's only showing "E". We've had this issue a few times with Chinese phones, because they often don't have the US 3G/4G cellular bands. That's got me thinking about something.

Where did you purchase it and what is the exact model number? Also baseband version would be useful as well. You can find that in Settings > about device

I bought this one on craigslist so I don't know if they will. I've been looking around could it be from the IMEI from not registering correctly? In the status it still shows my IMEI.

Where do you live? I'm in an area that is deemed terrible for almost any service due to terrain. Some bands don't do well in buildings, and like I said TMO is changing over and upgrading some towers.

If TMO sold you that phone for your area, I'd go complain and get a different one. Does it say TMO on the phone? Scammers sell all kinds of junk on Craigslist. It could be a TMO European phone.

That would explain why Edge. Not sure about the IMEI, but you apparently aren't blacklisted.

The sim works in his s2 though mate so surely its the phone?
If its still under warranty then it doesnt matter if its a used phone, its still covered
