Is it Slcd or Amoled?
Not 100% sure but I'm gonna say probably Slcd
Yeah... unfortunately, if it had AMOLED or S-AMOLED, I think they would have mentioned that like 10 times during the keynote, but since they didn't, it's probably not the most amazing screen tech.
Well it all depends I mean superamoled is awesome on my nexus. But a super LCD with qHD might be just as good. With that pixel count its gonna be as sharp as the retina of iPhone

Well, no matter what the pixel density is, the type of screen tech makes a huge difference. Look at a Nexus S and any LCD phone right next to each other; even if they have the same screen resolution and same screen size, the color saturation, black levels, etc make a pretty significant difference. The SAMOLED in the Captivate was a big selling point for me.
But yeah, you're right though - I'm sure they did a good job, and with such nice pixel density (best I have ever seen on an android device, other than that iPhone clone that recently came out in China), I'm sure it will be VERY impressive![]()

Actually, it's the only 8-bit (24-bit) phone display out there. That's a huge deal, as it means it has a wider color gamut (16.7 million colors) and I highly doubt the brightness and contrast isn't impressive if they went through the effort of having an 8-bit screen (most laptops don't even have true 8-bit screens).
Yea I'm thinking these combos they placed together was to give it superamoled look without having the shortage problems and or cost
Well, Apple and LG have shown that you can have excellent quality LCD screens that rival AMOLED. Motorola has yet to commit to AMOLED screens and it's probably a combination of battery usage and supply/cost issues. AMOLED/OLED will eventually surpass LCD, but that is going to be a while.
Exactly the biggest advantage amoled has is the true black and color saturation other than that I'm sure other screen tech can be manipulated to simulate the same effects

I have the Captivate, and I think the only thing I don't like about ANY OLED display is the "burn-in" effect they have. As nice as the contrast and colours are etc, it sucks when you want to see, say a web page in landscape, and you can clearly see the burnt-in notification bar (particularly against a white background) at the top of the phone, and that makes me sad... I really hope that this problem gets resolved someday.![]()
One of the things that has me excited about this phone is that it isn't AMOLED. I hate the pixelated look of PenTile displays, and the over saturated colors drive me nuts. Photos and movies on my iPhone 4 look exactly like my computer monitor, whereas the Captivate looked completely unnatural, like cranking the color on a TV up to max. The black levels are nice, but I can't stand the colors. On top of the colors, text looked fuzzy and I could see pixels on the screen. I returned the Captivate just because of the screen. I can't understand why anyone would choose AMOLED over LCD. Atrix looks to be the phone that will pry the iPhone 4 from my hands.
I agree. I've already sold my iPhone 4. I figure the $600 it sold for will more than make up for whatever price the Atrix will be on contract. Bought a 4th gen iPod in the meantime to run all of my iOS apps.
I am still not sure if I will sell my iP4. Tempted to and replace it with a iPod Touch but, then again, I may end up using a micro-sim adapter and switching between the two.

I might do this considering coffee spilled on my iPhone 4 and I can't sell it because you can't hear to talk. At least I'll be able to use Netflix on the go until Android gets the app.
