Man I tell you, is it too much to ask that I be able to control every piece of technology I own with my Bionic?

For free of course ;-)

Exactly.

I know I could purchase a car starter that would actually allow me to unlock doors and start it via my phone, but I would really love to turn my phone into a remote control for my tv etc.

I think if you have direct tv you can actually do that, I've seen an app for it but have never tried.
 
there is one for DISH.

But as for turning it into a remote, the tv would either have to be WIFI or 3/4G. there is not an IF sensor on the droid.
