Root Is it worth it for me to root?

I am looking for some opinions from you guys if it is worth it for me to root. I am not worried about the process or screwing anything up I just want to know if it would benefit me.

Recently I just switched to launcher pro plus and have been using widget locker in place of htc s lock screen. Basically I want to know if I root and flash a senseless rom and would it improve the performance of my phone and would it be beneficial to me to still use launcher pro.

I have been researching the different roms and trying to get a feel for what benefits rooting will bring me I am just having a hard time getting myself to root.

Just to recap I basically want better battery life and performance but I am not sure if it is better to stay unrooted or just go for it and eat my heart out with flashing roms and trying different kernels out as well.

You can absolutely use LP, I use it all the time. Better battery life is also a possibility with many of the newer Rom/kernel combos. I enjoy being on the cutting edge of what this phone has to offer. Right now, we are tinkering with working versions of Gingerbread well ahead of the time the average user will see it.

Probably one of the biggest pros IMO is the ability to back up all your stuff very quickly and efficiently. If you ever do have any issues, you can restore your apps, data and even an exact likeness of your current setup in all forms.

Additionally, there are many root only apps that give you options and experiences you won't get otherwise. One small example are screenshot apps. Another are much more powerful file managers that allow you to edit system files, a dealbreaker without root.

If you're confident, give it a go. I was skeptical at first but I'd never even dream of owning another Android phone without root. It'd feel kinda like going bear hunting with a BB gun...there's just clearly a better option. :D

I have been rooted for less than a week, and I will tell you that its definitely worth it. I've had my Incredible since release, and only recently decided that rooting was worth the time and small amount of effort.

I chose Cyanogen 6.1 as my first custom rom, and the difference in performance is phenomenal. I haven't noticed much difference in battery life, but i have yet to flash any kernals. Cyanogen comes with ADW, but i prefer LPP. It runs stunningly with LPP on top.

I would definitely recommend rooting. You wont regret it, and even if you do, you can always unroot.

A rooted incredible is a beautiful thing. Also, if it's Real, Significant battery life you're after, do yourself a favor and spend the 50-60 bucks on the htc 2150 mah battery. I'm a heavy user. With the stock battery i would get 6 to 8 hours. Now with the 2150 I get 14 to 16. It's so worth it, not having to stress about charging throughout the day

Thanks for all the responses. I will probably be using the unrevoked method today to root. This being the last week before I have to go back to school I have a few more days of free tome on my hands. I invested in the 1800 mah battery for the evo that fits without a new back and love it but still have to charge after 18-20 hours. I have also been experiencing screen redraws with launcher pro and have always had issues with notifications while using widget locker on top of sense. Hopefully rooting goes well I will definitely try cm 6.1 I hear great things about that and all the other roms in the threads on here.

I rooted recently and use Cyanogen 6.1 with LPP and Widget Locker. My phone preforms better AND my battery life when not in heavy use is dramatically better!

I am using invisiblek #21 kernel because I heard it has a great battery life.

Good luck, follow all instructions and BE PATIENT!

Coming back at you this fine afternoon with my newly rooted incredible. No problems rooting minus a few hiccups with norton and windows thinking the reflash_package from unrevoked was trying to get my computer, silly windows. Haven't flashed a rom yet but am going to try cyanogen 6.1. Have not looked into messing with kernels but i did see quite a few people in the "what rom/kernel are you using" thread with CM 6.1 and invisiblek #21 kernel.

Congrats. Be sure to make a Nandroid backup using Clockwork. This will give you a full blown restore point if anything goes south while flashing roms/kernels. Absolute necessary insurance.

the full nandroid backup to me is single handedly worth rooting a phone for, whatever other reasons people use root for such as special apps and running custom roms and kernels, is just a nice extra thrown in. i tried CM 6.1 earlier today and ended up going back to launcher pro plus running over top of sense. I am probably going to try a sense rom next just to see what cool things these devs pulled off.

im thinking about rooting. i tried the ADW lanucher and launcher pro and they are really cool, but i noticed my battery life is terrible i guess cause HTC sense is running along with the other launcher

so the question is.....will rooting be able to task kill the HTC sense launcher so that i only have one running

any roms you recommend? how is the "revoked" root program?

i wanna root so i can use a wireless hot spot on my ipod touch maybe ill get an ipad now wifi only

Cyanogen is a great Tom that doesn't include sense. that way if you run launcherpro or adw that it comes with it runs great. If you want a sense rim virtuous is great as well. Unrevoked is the best way to root and is very easy. Like others have said just take your time and follow directions.

If you are going with CM6.1 you might want to consider CM7 it is a Gingerbread ROM and it is great. No major issues right now. The Camera in Cyanagen ROMs is a lot better than the stock camera as well, imo. CM ROMs are great, but I am not sure about the battery life being exceptional.

One of the fastest ROMs I am aware of right now is actually a Sense based ROM, EVO framework. Incredibly Re-Engineered - The Incredible List

I asked myself these very questions for so long. I cannot believe I waited so long, what an idiot, it was so easy. My phone rules now thanks to CWM, SR3.5 and Hydra. My Inc became a whole new, better phone.

i did the root using the unrevoked program and justin murphy's youtube tutorials. i'm gonna read into ROM's and kernels for some better battery life and a different look.
the main reason i wanted was the wireless hotspot for my ipod touch. i was using PDA net but that only for my laptop and is USB only
