Hello all.
So I've been using a Droid Incredible (original) for 2 years, and it finally died on me. The insurance company sent me a Droid Incredible 2 instead of a Droid Incredible original since they didn't have any more. I originally rooted my Droid Incredible about 12 months after getting it with unrevoked. The process was painless and I was able to then purchase the premium version of ROM Manager and install Cyanogen Mod right then and there. At first I noticed that my phone ran much smoother as it was a fresh install of Android. However over time, I noticed that it began to run into the same slow problems that my original un-rooted ROM had: slow scrolling, slow everything.
Now originally I thought that well hey, this is just because the operating system has been installed for a while and it has gotten bogged down. The same thing happens with most Windows based PCs after usage, a clean install helps always. But I have never encountered this with Android phones or Linux on desktops, why would it be happening to my phone.
I guess what I am wondering is: is the trouble really worth it? I enjoyed these with rooting: Avast Antivirus extra features, ability to capture screenshots, freezing/removing built-in apps and most of all tethering the phone for a wifi signal on my laptop, and various other apps that required root.
My Droid Incredible 2 shipped with 2.3.4 and I am wondering if it would handle 4.1 with ease. Is Cyanogen Mod the problem? Should I pick another ROM? Do I just need to spend more time using a task killer to manage my memory? I do understand the benefits (and disadvantages) but it seems like a lot of work just to get my phone running smoothly.
