Help Is "lag" part of the Android experience?

I have an HTC Desire running Android 2.2. I have added GO Contacts (free version) and Better Keyboard 8, in addition to some games & utilities. According to settings, I have 20.56 MB of available internal memory.

Other than the facts that the keyboard is pretty much useless in bright sunlight, the battery life is nonexistent, and typing on a virtual keyboard is misery for my size hands, it is an okay phone. There were not many choices at my cell carrier anyway, so that's what I have.

The biggest issue I currently have is simple lag. Suppose I have an incoming call. I am supposed to swipe down to answer, right? Well, about 50% of the time, the swipe hangs up about 3/4s of the way down. Can't answer or return to the un-swiped state without powering down. Result: missed call.

Other times, I will open GO Contacts and wait 3-5 seconds for something to appear on the screen. Same thing with keyboards and most apps.

So -- Is touchscreen lag a "feature" or a "bug"? Others have told me that Android is inherently laggy (and to get over it), that they've seen the same thing happening on Samsung Galaxy.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Android since I've used it. My first phone was the G1 on TMobile back when Android was first released. Of course the first few iterations were slow to pick up but Android was young.

On my Galaxy Nexus now I rarely have a Force Close (can't remember the last time I saw one actually) and the experience is nothing short of amazing. There are definitely some phones that are not upgraded and lose support from manufacturer and carrier but that is where the development community comes in.

Check out XDA and RootzWiki and you will most likely see continual support for your phone as long as there is the desire for it.

I would honestly open up your own thread instead of jumping in this one, but that doesn't seem right. Also how is the keyboard useless in sunlight, but the rest of works fine for you? A lot of phones (most) do not view well in direct sunlight.

I'd check out this XDA section and maybe look into rooting or loading a custom ROM on your phone to enhance your experience: HTC Desire - xda-developers

Hello dejeaux. Your post was removed from the thread in Android Lounge and placed in the Desire Support area as a new thread for you (along with the quoted response to you). :)
