Help Is Micro-USB a Problem or am I?

I have a Navigon GPS that I have used on my motorcycle. On one long trip, the GPS got vibrated into a position where the usb charging cable was rubbing against the handlebars. This must have bent the pins inside the usb receptacle on the GPS because from that day forward, I have had to use a rubber band around the charging cable to apply pressure toward the back of the unit for it to charge. This leads me to believe that the whole usb setup is a weak spot in any device. After that experience, I tend to be a lot more careful how I deal with my phone when the charger is plugged in.

Bought a ten-foot micro-USB cable that didn’t work right. They took it back, but ever since, other cables didn’t feel like they went in right even though they worked. Then I borrowed a charger and its connection apparently bent the conductor pins in my phone port.

Now I have to drop the phone at Sprint on the way to work and live without it until they replace the port. I don’t expect the warranty to cover this, nor the protection plan if I had it. I’m just curious if this is a known design soft spot, or if there are funky cable ends out there...

Currently no known issue for this.

A lot of cables out there are crap. I have never gotten a bad one from monoprice.com. May I recommend:
3ft USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core (Gold Plated)

And if you want a 10 footer they have that, too.
