Is my Android phone second hand?

Hi
I recently received a new HTC Desire S from a UK service provider (it was in exchange for a faulty HTC Desire). When I got home I discovered that the package had been opened, although I assumed this was in order to put in the accessories from my faulty handset.
What makes me think the phone had already been used is that under "About phone">"phone identity">"phone number" there is a UK mobile number listed which is not my own...So my question is: is this a sure sign that my sim card was not the first to go into this phone?
Thanks
Jon

I know when Verizon replaces phones under warranty, it's always a refurbished phone. So given your description, probably yours is too.

When Motorola Cliq went down it was replaced by a refurbished unit. Looking back I just assumed it would refurbished. This second refurbished Cliq has outlasted the original brand new unit by quite a large margin.

Under my phone number it says "Unknown"....

Maybe because it has had two SIM cards in it since I got it. But it was definitely brand new, unopened when I received it

I understand it's standard practice with the networks to provide refurb handsets on warranty terms. Same as most electrical products TBH - when my PS3 failed within warranty, I got a refurb back. Quite normal IMO.
