Root Is ROM Manager Safe?

you absolutely need Droid X/2 Bootstrapper to install custom ROMs

you can install custom roms through rom manager, and download them through it

however all roms for the dx can be found at the top of the page in the theme/rom list, and are easily installed through dx/2 bootstrapper

Many phones/tablets only have Rom Manager to use. There some here that hate it and refuse to use it, but I love it and use it to download roms and manage backups (rename, delete).

If I wanted the latest version of CyanogenMod 7 could it be installed via either app?

I am looking for a stable, well known ROM for my first go.

They both boot to the same recovery. Rom Manager can backup, install/wipe and also install gApps, but it just sends a script to CWM to do this. For a rom update (nightly builds with a good rating), I might backup and install via RM, but your best bet when installing a different rom is to do it from CWM so you can watch for errors.
