Is the Droid Screen Pocket Safe?

It was bad enough that it was all I seemed to focus on. It was only an inch or so, but it was deep enough that it would not "rub out". The invisishield (or whichever brand works for you) is the way to go. I cant even tell that scratch is there now. Not as silky smooth feeling to the screen now, but the invisishield is not that tacky.

Alright sweet, the scratch is about an inch on mine too, it's pretty deep though. I'm gonna get one of the invisible shields and see if it helps at all.

I have one of those screen covers and a faux leather cover... my Droid is in my pocket all day long with a set of work keys and my change... and I've had no issues whatsoever.

(note to self) *don't fill my pocket with sand*

On my first Droid, I had a case on it but no screen cover. I thought there were no scratches at all, but in the right light I noticed tiny little scratches. I kept it in my pocket with nothing else. So somehow, through normal use, or from a cotton pocket, it got scratched.

Right now, on my second one, I have the verizon piece of crap screen covers. I'll probably end up with something better eventually but I won't be leaving the screen uncovered in anycase.

i have a scratch from velcro i think! WATCH OUT FOR VELCRO! the scratchy part messes it up i think. but its not big and hardly notice it!

Be careful. Many Droid users, including myself, are having an issue with dust getting UNDER the screen, and I even carry mine in a holster, so imagine what a pocket could do!

I've been having the same issue. Been tossing about going to vzw for a replacement. It's not horrible just kind of annoying. I'm not sure that a screen protecter would help this issue as it's not getting through the glass. Has to be getting in an unsealed crevice somewhere.

A scratch from Velcro... -Most likely from a grain of sand caught inside the Velcro.

As a jeweler, I can tell you from experience with mineral hardnesses that there are a LOT of every-day substances that will scratch glass.

There's always one thing missing from discussions like this; That major variable of "application", or in this case, environment.
If you're a cubical jockey and press keys for a living, the idea of getting your new Droid scratched simply from putting it into your pocket might be laughable. But for those who do other jobs, such as construction or landscaping (...I was a landscaper for 12 years not so long ago), you know for certain that your blue jeans or carharts coming fresh & clean out of the dryer STILL have quartz sand in the pockets.

A ziplock bag- funny, and "way" ghetto, but until I find a case I'm happy with, that's exactly what I've been doing (because I also suffer from "OCD-eye").

As for the "specs under the screen" issue, I've been thinking about rubbing clear silicone sealant into the dust-trap at the edge of the glass. If it's done correctly, it would hardly be noticeable, and it would certainly keep specs from finding there way under the screen, which to me would be about as bad as a scratch, really.

Clothes that have been predistressed will also sometimes have grains of sand left in the seams of pockets. Stonewashed blue jeans are often washed in a media of sand and stones.

Do you think a fingernail could possibly scratch the screen? I'm often hesistant to allow ladies with long fingernails to play with my phone. :p

I was worried about the unprotected screen, even bought the verizon screen shield when I bought the phone, but didn't like what it did to the sensitivity of the touch screen. But, after seeing the scratch test video, I threw away the shield. I'm no ways near as rough with my phone as those keys were. I think I'm safe to go naked.

THAT is the da bomb!!!!! Let us know if you actually succeed!! That is a great idea if it will work.

I've had mine in my pocket since day one (Nov 6) and have no scratches, large or small.

I keep the face towards my thigh, and don't keep other objects in that pocket.

The screen is the best I've ever had on a mobile/smart phone...
