Root Is the hardware messed up on my Triumph?

Sometimes....and I mean the rare kind.......I can get the phone to acknowledge that it's connected via USB (and to get Linux Mint to acknowledge like-wise), but for whatever reason I just can't the USB working anymore. My wife also has the same phone and her's works fine. I can easily access the contents of her SD card using Mint. I did root my phone using gingerbreak, and installed lots of stuff onto it before the phone started 'acting up' (slugginess, locking up temporarily, wi-fi randomly turning off, USB not showing up though the phone was connected).

So, this morning I booted the phone into recover mode (vol up+down + power) and formatted the cache and wiped the user data and rebooted. Same result. I still can't the phone to connect via USB. I also can't access the contents of the SD card from the manage applications menu. I can make calls just fine with the phone, though.

What could I have done to get the phone into this state? Is there a remedy?

might be a bad sd card,i know some sd cards can screw with the whole OS while its active... try taking out the card and plugging the usb see if it works... other then that.. might be an app screwing with the operations of your phone.

I will try connecting via USB without the SD card. Since the phone's data has been wiped clean in recover mode multiple times I doubt that an app is messing with the system, unless ......

(a) wiping the system clean ONLY removes programs wittingly installed by the user, or

(b) a trojan of some sort made its way onto the system, thereby being unaffected by the standard system wipe.

Why can't we have the option of formatting the internal hard drive (or memory) and just installing a system that for all intents and purposes has never been altered?

For 'now', the problem was the SD card. I bought a 16gb PNY card at Best Buy, and everything's working as it should. Thanks to those who suggested that I use a different card!

The phone is the best you're going to get for a non-contract phone, but it doesn't measure up to phones like the Sensation and GS2. Conversely, I'm GLAD I spent so much time yesterday reading reviews of phones like the above-mentioned because I was THIS CLOSE to ditching the phone and signing up for a higher class phone with much better coverage.

It should work if you do stock recovery and not root the phone. Unrooting wont work.
