Root Is the Incredible 2 dead?

Aaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!

I meant DALVIK not data!

Sorry! :o

Thanks man. I followed your instructions and it installed fine, but I couldn't get data to work. It said I had a 3G connection, but if I tried to surf the net or use the market, it said I had no data connection. So I went back to my trusty Gingerbread version for now.

I'm going to try again over the weekend when I don't have to worry about having my phone out of service for awhile. During the week, I need it for work so I don't want to mess with it now. From what little I saw of it, it seems like it would run fine so I hope I get the data problem worked out.

I had a minute near the beginning where the play store wouldn't DL, but after connecting to WiFi and back to 3g, it worked again.

I would try dialing *28891 for the PRL programming, reboot into recovery and wipe the DALVIK:D and cache, fix permissions (assuming you hadn't yet)

OH!!! Wait. I think you ought to go into settings>Mobile Networks and go through all the settings in there. I'm pretty sure after the initial flashing party, the data wasn't even enabled.

@TheAtheistReverend-
Alright, I finally figured out which thread on XDA and found your comments at the end. So you said in that op that you flashed the latest control panel suite and didn't work but then you flashed the corresponding control panel suite and it worked? Is that right? Where did you get the corresponding control panel suite?

Also, did you just use the latest V6 supercharger? Thanks

UPDATE: oops, NM I think I found it. Here's a link to the 2.12.29 version of Control Panel Suite
MIUI Control Panel Suite VIVO 2.12.29

This is the V6 I flashed:

And to get the proper busybox installed I used this app because it gives you a choice far enough back of which version to use (important to use the recommended one)

Went back over things again last night and figured out the data problem. For whatever reason, the data was turned off in the settings by default. It showed the 3G and 1G signal at the top, but it was off in the settings. Once I turned it on, everything worked. I also noticed that when I turned wifi on, the 3g and 1g bars still remain in the status bar. That is different than the Gingerbread version where the 3G icon disappears when using wifi.

All in all, the ICS version is pretty good, but the one thing that will keep me from using it as a daily is the theme setup. I like to create my own themes because I hate the default white\orange theme. You can't install a theme straight from the sd card anymore. Everything has to be done online through their theme manager. That means to do a custom theme, I will have to do it the old fashion way of theming each .apk and flashing the new .apk over top of the installed one. That gets to be a pain because it's not as simple to change things.

I'll still keep a nandroid backup of it on hand so I can switch to it from time to time just to play around.

Hey, this happened to me too but it's actually not really a problem. I just went in to the settings and turned on data. Yes, I know it's strange to have the 3G symbol in the notification bar if data's not on but that's what it does. I don't know why data is turned off by default, but...

UPDATE: oops, should have read further down the thread as I see you got it worked out.

Yeah, i'm slowly figuring things out with this version. I even got the theme thing worked out so I can make my own custom themes now.

But what I haven't figured out yet is how to disable the phone vibration on incoming calls. I have looked through every option I can find that references vibration and turned them off, but the phone still wants to vibrate on incoming calls and I hate that.

Would anyone know what option this is under and/or how to disable vibration on incoming calls?

I finally went back to MIUI 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) because I was having issues with the 3g connectivity. Some apps thought I wasn't connected to the internet, whilst others acted normal.
Between that, and missing the snappiness that comes with honest to goodness overclocking and GB in general, I had no choice really :p

And no, my Incredible is FAR from dead ;)

I'll probably end up doing the same thing simply because I have yet to see the benefit of ICS so far. While I have no issues with connectivity so far and the ROM runs great now that I have got all the crap removed (I always strip ROMs I install down to the bare minimum by removing apps I will never use\need, ringtones, bootanimations, etc.), in the end it doesn't do anything better than the Gingerbread ROM i've been using.

Plus, the thought of having to redo all of my themes to match the changes in the ICS ROM doesn't exactly excite me either. They just don't port over easily like I had hoped.

I will still keep a nandroid backup of it handy just to mess around with if I ever get bored so I am hoping someone knows how to turn off the incoming call vibration so I can disable if I ever switch over for a day or two.

I know that no one has posted on this thread for a while, but I'm hoping someone is still watching. I checked into this thread originally because I am still using an Inc2. It was recently (and very sadly) submerged and is unsalvagable. I had to settle for the replacement Inc2 from insurance because I'm not eligible for an upgrade until August. Anyway....

I rooted my first phone and ran CM7 on it. For the most part I was happy. It randomly rebooted sometimes but I found that to be more compatability issues related to apps than the MOD itself. My first question is: can I take my new phone, use my old SD card, boot the new phone from the SD card and still run CM7? Or will I need to go through the whole rooting process again?

My second question is: is there a better MOD to use? It appears from this discussion that some of you have found other MODS that you like better. I'm open to suggestions, but I want to be able to access some of the files I backed up to my old SD card. And...please be patient if I ask ridiculous questions. Honestly, I rooted my phone to get rid of ads and to use it as a hotspot. I'm too afraid to do much else with it because I don't want to brick the damn thing.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I went through the same process with a replacement device and yes, you have to go through the rooting process again. However, you CAN use your old card in the new device...but the OS doesn't live there; it lives on the internal memory.

I tried running CM7 and CM10 on the device and I just didn't have a good experience. I've always been happy with MIUI, however, both the gingerbread and the ICS based version. Once you are rooted again, you might as well try out a couple of the newer ICS or Jellybean based ROMs...you might like them.

Well that's a relief! Thanks for the quick response! I've been looking around the web at some other ROMs and I think it comes down to a question of what I'm used to as far as functionality. I'm sure I barely scrape the surface when it comes to what one can do with a rooted phone. The trial and error approach makes me nervous because I'm smart enough to be dangerous about it.
