I'm in the UK and have a Motorola Milestone running Cyanogenmod port 6.1 RC5. I run the phone 100% reliably at 900MHz, and this allows to have a pretty snappy response from every app I can think of. The CM port is based on Android 2.2.1 so you have Adobe Flash 10.1 and therefore access to the BBC iPlayer, which otherwise is not accessible on Android.
Downsides? Battery life is not great, with the phone lasting 2 days if you use it as a phone. If you want to sync all your email/facebook/twitter and spend time surfing the web on the train and whatnot, then you'll need to charge it every night.
The camera really isn't great. Although it's 5MP, my old Blackberry's 3MP camera seemed sharper. It's especially bad in low light. In good light it makes acceptable photos, but certainly not on par with a 5MP point n shoot camera. The camera is very susceptible to fingerprints and grease from your finger blurring the pictures. You'll need to polish the glass that covers the lens regularly or your photos will look like they were shot through a layer of Vaseline. I've never seen a phone camera so finnicky about this.
The slide out keyboard is nice, but Swype makes it much less important. It's nowhere near as good as a Blackberry keyboard, but it's better than not having one at all. If I could swap the hardware keyboard for a double capacity battery, then I would. However I always like the tactile feel of a proper hardware keyboard. The Milestone's keyboard is so flat that there isn't much feel to it, but again, it's better than not having one at all.
