is the nexus 1 out of date??

Would i be a step behind technology if i bought the N1? i like the fact its vanilla android and isnt huge like the new ones coming out. But then again i dont want a phone that is out of date in 6 months
 
It won't be outdated anytime soon (as far as soon goes in this day and age of technological advancement). In fact because the N1 has froyo 2.2 atm and no other phone has it, I daresay it is now the best performing android phone (untill the manufacturers update their phones with their versions of 2.2). I'm quite sure of that from comparing benchmarks :)
And in 6 months we'll probably be the first to see Gingerbread aswell (the new android version).
 
i dont see this phone being outdated for alteast a year or two. its top of the line hardware. its does more then other phones and has fewer restriction and additional fees for the things it does.

the only thing that is going to make this phone outdated is some sort of new technology that isnt compatible taking over, and that will take time.... or if you're a trendy douche that just has to have what ever is the newest most talked about phone.....even if it doesnt work in the palm of your hand.

im freaking amazed at all the things my phone can do. and i probably dont even know 25% of them yet.
 
it kicks ass and will continue to do so for a long time to come. Still puts the iphone and other android devices in the shade :D

so you guys think this is the best android phone out right now? because i was thinking of getting either this one or the incredible/ droid x.

Droid x seems awesome, but it is big and i had the evo 4g for a few weeks.

"Best" is a subjective term. The N1 was the best for me because it is unlocked vanilla Android that feels good in my hand and my pocket. YMMV.

To me it's on par with all of the new phones that are out on the market or coming this summer. They don't offer much more than what the Nexus One has to offer that would make the Nexus One 'obsolete' or 'redudent'.

What's the Nexus One's true selling point is that it's running on Android 2.2, which no other phones are currently.

Only issue you might have with the N1 is its AMOLED screen that affects sunlight legibility and the Clearpad 2000 sensor that hinders true multitouch performance.
 
Ugh, I hate all these "Nexus One out of date" threads I see pop up everywhere.

When you have to live on the "Bleeding Edge" of technology and always have the most up to date devices and toys, you'll never be happy.

Comparing phones is like comparing Apples to Onions. You can't make a device that will make 100% of the people 100% happy. There are things about my N1 I LOVE, there are a couple things I don't like. Is it perfect? Hell no, BUT, it meets ALL my needs that I have for a device and meets them well, especially with 2.2... :)

I say, find the one that meets your needs the closest and go for it. If you are always waiting for the best, either you have more money and brains, or will never get anything because there is always something "better" coming out "soon"... :D
 
Like I said, with froyo the nexus is for the moment the best performing Android phone. Furthermore, it has great build quality (I think its the only smartphone apart from the iPhone which has a singular body, so that adds to the sturdyness). And if you cqre a bit for software you'll be very happy with vanilla android.
The Droid X looks very promising but I'd wait that out a bit and see what feedback it gets from users. It's never that smart to jump the gun with these releases, you just never know.
So to sum up: if you want to buy a phone now, the N1 is still at the top of its game. And with all these new Android powerphones coming out, you may even find yourself a sweet deal on one :)

is the screen really THAT bad, where it is almost unusable in the sun? and what is this clearpad 2000?
 
I use my N1 outside all the time. Yeah, it can be hard to see when you have the phone in direct sunlight, especially when it is reflecting the sun in your eyes.

However, I just turn slightly and put it in the shadow of my head and use away.
 
And no, it's not unusable in the sun. It was the hottest day of the year today and I spent an hour outside, tinkering with my N1
 
I still maintain and will tell EVERYTHING, that the screen is worthless when you are staring at a reflection of the sun...

Wait, that is true for ANY device... Hmmm.... :p

It's not out of date. For me, I'm looking to switch not because it's out of date, but because I am sick of AT&T in my area (and T-Mo is no better, BTW).

Ewwww... I would hate to see someone have to jump ship to one of those CDMA carriers... :(
 
Nexus for the win. Mt cousin has an evo and we put both phones side by side and we ran some websites. My nexus beat him every time. He has the hotspot option on his plan also so we did some hotspot testing. we ran speedtest 5 times and each time i beat him on speed and 2 times were by alot. Again there is no 4g here in orlando, but tmo has not deployed hspa here either. so i say it was fair. He was pretty pissed and went on and on with the screen size. I have a netbook and dont need anything that big. I can simply hot spot my netbook to my nexus (for free) and get better results. 30 for hotspot and ten for 4g is just plain ridiculous. Im so pleased with my Nexus

Nexus is not out of date. It's no longer the very best smartphone, but it's still on the high end of the spectrum. FWIW, I think the Nexus is better than the iPhone 4.

My wife has an iPhone 4 and she loves it, and it suits her, but for me, I need something with more, and the Nexus One fits the bill perfectly!!

Different people will like different things for different reasons. :D

Just curious, what's the hottest day of the year like in Belgium? I'm literally on my way to the airport to board a plane to Amsterdam (which is pretty close if my geography serves me correctly) and it's about 40 degrees F cooler than home (Phoenix).
 
You know you can get sunburn skiing, you don't need heat. Sun can be strong anywhere

Well this has been the hottest day this year so far and at its hottest it was 36-37
 
There's always a "new and better" phone around the corner but to me the major point where the N1 outshines all the others is the fact that it gets first dibs on OS updates.
