Root is there a benifit from upgrading your radio?

Sure, roms using 2.2 froyo won't work 100% with 1.# radio. Upgrading it brings out the most functionality for your rom. If you apply the leaked OTA update from last month it will give you an updated radio, thats all you really need. I am not sure of the benefits of upgrading to the 2.15 radio. Other than the fact that we can do it, I don't see a real reason to.

Think of it as a firmware upgrade.
2.05 has Added features such as wifi hotspot/tethering, 720p video camera, better reception.
I dont know really what 2.15 has.

edit: also to go to 2.15 you need to turn s-off. I'll do both someday, but I'm happy with what I have so far.

ok cool thank you guys.. is it safe to upgrade the radio when i already have my phone rooted and i have a 2.2 rom on now?

the 2.15 made my reception 10000000x times better. i now have FULL bars about 80% of the time. worked great on my setup.

Interesting. I might give that a try then.

xyojimbox - I would think so, but hopefully someone can confirm that. I upgraded my radio before going to 2.2

yup. i was rooted using stock 2.1 then turned s off then installed second wave with newest radio and it made all the difference in the world on my phone.

My phone was rooted running a 2.2 Rom. I used unrevoked forever and then did the radio update patch that adrynalyne put out. But I had already done the leaked ota update.

If i do the S-Off and upgrade to 2.15, will i still be able to get the OTA when it arrives? I understand that i'd need to reinstall the stock recovery, but would i have to downgrade the radio as well? is it even possible to downgrade radio from 2.15 back to 1.xx?

From this thread:

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-incredible/149709-downgrade-back-1-x-radio-mac.html

From what I understand if you are using Unrevoked Forever all you need to do is find the radio you want, rename the zip file to "PB31IMG.zip", boot into HBOOT (not recovery) and after it prompts you to install, push up to install.

This will downgrade you back to the original radio. This is just on what I read, as I have the 2.15 radio, and haven't downgraded it before. If you go to the 2.15 thread you can see the same instructions, plus the original radio in zip file.

Here is the thread

I'm pretty sure it can be done.

i tried to install the 2.05 one cause i didnt do the revoke forever thing cause all the warnings he posted kinda scared me haha.. but the install doesnt work.. does that mean i will have to go back to stock to get it to install?

unrevoked forever literally took less than two minutes. once that was done, going from stock radio to 2.15 took less than another 5 (probably less than 2...i was shocked how quickly both were done)...

just a FYI. of course, YMMV...but as long as you follow the instructions, forever should be pretty easy to do.

im scared to do this and need help. here is what im going to do.

1. download Forever
2. place it on the root of SD card (FAT32)
3. boot into CWM recovery and choose Forever as the update file.
4. after the update is finish, reboot.

radio update
1. download radio img.
2. place it on the root of SD card (FAT32)
3. boot into Hboot, down vol DOWN and Power when the phone turned off

Am I doing it right? also, does the overclock kernel compatible with this?

Yes, back to stock, update radio, reroot and then go froyo! But really, forever is the way to go. Just jump right to 2.15 and custom rom!

Im running the hydra .32 overclock to 1113 and under clock with frankenrom sense less, so yeah you will be fine.

From my experience, upgrading the radio can be hit and miss sometimes. It really depends on what network and country you are from.

Yes, that is correct. And if your nervous about it, just refer back to the step by step from unrevoked. public:forever [RootWiki]
But, yes, you are completely correct.

Also, and update on what i've noticed with the .15 upgrade. I am now seeing download/upload speeds of 2.5mb download, and 1mb upload.
