Help Is there a 'factory' language setting on Desire?

Hi!

Is there some low-level 'factory' language setting which can't be reset ever?

My Desire came from eBay US and is great, but if ever I install a ROM update and / or do a factory wipe via settings or recovery the phone always comes back in German.

It's not a huge chore to change the language via Settings (albeit I don't speak German!) but does anyone know a way that I might permanently set the device to English which will survive a full reset / ROM install?

The initial boot-image on the phone is a pink circle, before getting to the lovely CM7 boot animation if that means anything?

Interesting issue you have there. Are you running all of the available wipes (dalvik, etc) prior to loading a new ROM?

I've seen this issue (only partially) resolved in two ways: 1. find an English language pack and install it, then configure that pack to be the default language (be mindful of "U.K. English," as opposed to "U.S. English"). 2. root your device and find a ROM in the English language version you prefer (I see you're rooted and already familiar with ROMs).

We've seen a few reports of users rooting their device and going into the folders where language packs are stored, then removing all but the one(s) they want. I can't recommend doing that because I've not yet seen complete success; it seems there are services running which are affected by those removals and error messages come along after a while.

The portions of the system which bring German language back in following a wipe are accessible as root, but I'd be inclined to leave that be.

The language pack remedy is probably the best, as it is straightforward and is a lot like merely installing an app.

It's certainly an odd one this; I'm running CM7 RC2 which as far as I'm aware has no particular affinity with Germany! ;-)
