Help Is there a way to deactivate the screen lock?

Android is supposed to be all about configurability. If I don't want a screen lock (and I don't), then why can't it be up to me to disable? I'm a big boy. If I'm stupid enough to make accidental calls because I don't have a lock, I will pay for them and deal with any contacts that I happen to piss off. Bottom line: give the user some credit for being able to make their own choices and living with the results.

Amen! Johnny Cakes!

Really though, I didn't think this was going to be such an issue. I just thought the whole purpose of the Android OS was to be able to customize the way you wanted. Simple as that.

I've yet to have a phone that never locks, except for flip phones. Perhaps you should switch to a flip phone.

On my BB Curve it didn't auto-lock. If it was on my desk or dash I could just push any button and the screen would come on. If I was going to throw it in my purse I would click the side button (I made the side button the key-lock) and it would be locked so I couldn't make accidental calls. It's just annoying that I have to press two separate buttons every time to see my Moments screen. Especially because there is no LED notification light! ;)

Thank you Jen8112, just goes to show that obviously I'm not the only one annoyed with this problem making it a legit issue.

amberb53, Johnny Cakes, all...

My first post, my first smart phone (Droid) and the whole reason I came here was to find the answer to the same question. You're definitely not alone...

But what I'd like is not just the ability to disable the screen lock but to have a different, user selectable setting for the screen timeout and the screen lock. What I hate is that almost as soon as I notice the screen timeout the device also locks requiring me to press the stupid, tiny button and swipe my finger across the screen.

I'd like to set specific, independent screen timeouts and screen lock delays. If I could awaken the phone within, say 15 sec after the screen timeout, before the device locks, I'd be happy...

The Touch Pro actually is just one button to turn on screen. I had so much problems with it though such as calling random people or texting stuff I had to put a password screen just to lock it.

it's not going to happen.

No offence, but everything in a computerized device is possible if you have the proper access and programming skills.

We know that Lock 2.0 can disable the default menu lock. So someone just needs to write an app that does the same thing, but takes us straight to the home page, or whatever the last screen was.

It's the same with many many WinMo devices. I've had a few touchscreen devices, and a lock was optional, not mandatory. I should know, for the amount of pocket dialing I did with my HTC Touch... *sigh*

But... why are people getting so up in arms about this? People want to use their device the way they want to use it. If they want to take the risk of increased pocket dialing for the convenience of only having to push a single button to regain full access, then that's their prerogative. There's no good reason not to give people that option if they want it.

Personally after all the pocket dialing I did in WinMo whenever I'd forget to reinstall a lock program after flashing a new ROM... I'll take the protection that locking provides.

--Perfectly Stated! That's the bottomline "If they want to take the risk of increased pocket dialing for the convenience of only having to push a single button to regain full access, then that's their prerogative. There's no good reason not to give people that option if they want it."
