Help Is there a way to stop all notifications from a specific app?

For the stock email app, I have notifications shut off but I still get a notification whenever it's unable to sign in. It keeps coming up randomly all the time and it annoys me everytime.


I like the app apart from that.

I'm not sure about the unable to sign in part, but for most apps you can go to Settings | Apps | [app you want to disable notifications\ and just under the force close buttun untick the "Enable Notifications" box.

Since the 4.3 update, I have two apps that "forget" that they're not supposed to display notifications after each phone restart. So, after each repowering, I have to go to AppSettings and retoggle the Notifications flag from OFF to ON to OFF for each of these.

If the email app is telling you it can't login don't you just want to stop that account from syncing ? Then the notification will stop.

Sounds like something is not right with your 4.3 update then. Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the apps?

While that's a real pain in the butt, it's working as Google intended. It will not remember the setting between phone restarts unless you root the phone.

My S4 pre-root would remember my settings between restarts. And my wife's S3 does also. Are you saying this is something new with 4.3?

Yes, this is an intended change for security in Android 4.3.

As apps update and you try new apps, you'll see where app developers are making note of this change. For example, the Rounder app makes a note in the settings about this change. I took a screenie for you;

I wonder if someone could write an app to re-toggle specified notifications without root.

The 4.3 update really messed things up for my phone...this is the last non-rooted phone for me I think. I used to never have issues; since the update, I've had a lot of force closes and hangings. I even turned Flipboard off.

A lot of times when you do an OTA update the files get corrupted when its overwriting old files with new ones. The effects of that are what you've described. Generally speaking you should do a factory reset directly after the OTA update has completed the install. Especially when there are quite a few things that changed between versions. While a fresh factory reset is a pain in the butt because you have to redo everything, it reinstalls clean system files and fixes a lot of issues brought about by the original update.

I know, I know. I did this when the LAST update struck. I'm trying to see if I can live with it until the NEXT update...or until my December vacation wen I'll have the time.
