Root Is there a way to update MIUI?

Ok, ROM manager helpfully informed me there is an update available to MIUI. Great! Now, I have it downloaded, but when I tell ROM manager to reboot into recovery, it just reboots. Right back into the current build of MIUI that's on my phone. So, what am I missing? Should I be doing something different?

At the top of the ROM Manager screen, it should tell you the latest and your current version of ClockworkMod? Do they match? If not, hit Flash Clockworkmod recovery, then try again.

Which version of MIUI are you running? If it's the ICS version don't install that update. It's a known bug in MIUI ICS and you will have to sbf yer phone if you install it.

+1. Don't install it.

To get into recovery, reboot and press volume-down when the blue led fires.

O/W you can open terminal and type:

su

close terminal and rom manager will get you into recovery.

Stay on 1.10.21. The update it's giving you is to MIUI version 1.10.28. The .21 is more stable than the .28 my friend.

Well thats different. I'm running that version now and it's pretty good so far. good battery life too. O'k, so what I would do is follow what Colchiro said above. Either way will work fine.

If ya wanna be lazy just go with the rebooting and hitting the vol down button when you see the blue led come up. You shouldn't have any troubles. Let us know how you make out.

Well how am I supposed to install it from there? Or should I just find a good link & download it as a zip to the sd?

Install zip from sdcard...

... choose zip from sdcard

... then browse thru the file structure I posted above. :D

... OR you could just install it from RM and trust it to do the work for you.

You'd need to open terminal window and type

su
cat.jpg

close terminal window, then choose install rom from RM, making sure you backup rom and wipe data (if coming from ICS or another rom).

I prefer to browse for it in this instance. :D

When installing an update, do I need to wipe all my user data, like apps, accounts, contacts, etc? Or should I treat it like an ota? And just update?

The developer of the 12.9 build says

1) SBF to .602 unless you're already on MIUI 1.10.21
2) Flash Rom

So I guess if you are already on 10.21, wiping cache/dalvik is enough.

BTW, I wipe cache even before receiving an OTA...

dansamy you can flash a Rom or similar from any folder while you're in CWR. I know people say to have it on the root of the sd but it really isn't nessesary. That's mearly ease of access.

Considering you're already on MIUI you would just have to wipe cache/dalvic. I personally like to start off clean so i wipe everything, install the Rom, and wipe data one more time.

Me? Task manager? NO WAY.

Just wiped and installed 12.09, then restored apps via TIBU.

So far so good. :D

I decided that as much as I liked ICS, a lot of apps aren't ready for it, which kills my battery some days. So I'll switch to ICS when MIUI does (or a great rom comes out).

OK. I'm having a problem. When I go into cwm and install the 12.09 zip, it says it installed, but the phone still says it's on 10.21. I've done it several times now with the same result. What gives?
