Ooo this is a function I hadn't thought of yet! I'm not so much interested in blocking as I'd be in auto-sending them to my in-box.

Some people who call me do so to ask favours and call me at the worst of times and if I don't pick up, it keeps ringing and they keep calling back (persistent buggers ...). I can't even tell them no because they're friends of friends, grrr.

Unfortunately not. I don't need that functionality.

Actually on my vanilla Rom, in a contact and options.I have a tick to send straight to voicemail. Not had HTC Rom for ages so not sure if its there

Yup it's still there! I haven't used it yet, but I like knowing I can send someone I don't like directly to voicemail.
