Is there an Android app where you can choose and then join a group?

Hi everyone

I know there are a lot of Android apps out there that allow you to create a group and then invite your family, friends, co-workers, etc to join your group. Many of these apps also require that each person must have the app installed on their phone as well in order for it to work.

However, this isn't the kind of app I'm looking for. What I'm actually looking for is an app that has a list of groups (either default, user-created or both) in different categories so that, for example, I can go down the list and maybe see a category called "Pets" and then a sub-category called "Dogs" and then simply click on that group and join it (or wait to be approved to join).

Perhaps something along the lines of what you see on the regular Internet where people can create groups, join them, etc (except I need a phone app for this). You see a group and it might say something like "Betsy's Poodle Group"/created (date)/42 members, etc. Would also be nice if it didn't just offer local or "people in your area" but allowed you to join groups anywhere.

Does anything like this even exist?. Thanks so much for any help with this! - BlueBird

Depends on what kind of groups. You mean forums like this one? I know there's a pet forum, a ched forum, a gamer forum, etc. Tapatalk can handle that. Or even Facebook Groups and Google+ Communities doe the same thing.

Thanks for the reply. What I'm talking about is an app similar to Kik, WhatsApp, etc that will allow you to join groups. Not interested in FB or posting to a forum through an app. In other words, I need an app that I can install on my phone, sort through a list of groups and then join one. Currently, most app (I believe) allow you to create groups and then invite friends or family to join. What I'm looking for is an app that already has groups that I can join.

So, you want an app that will allow you to chat with other people regarding subjects of common interest, and you want the app to have a pre-defined list of interests?

I think that's what he's talking about, like Yahoo used to have a gazillion of chat rooms you could join and go into them and talk with people about just about any topic you wanted, only he's looking for actual groups and not "chat rooms" as it were for his phone!

Sounds more like some social media service like Facebook or Google+. These services have apps. I don't know of any such service that only has phone apps and no other way to access them. Google+ has a phone app, but you can also use any web browser.

If you can join groups and post messages from a phone app, why do you not want to also have the ability to do the same from any web browser?

I recommend the communities (groups) on google+
