Root Is there an app for this?

[m6284505]

Is there an app that I can install on the Evo that will allow me to browse file shares on my computer?
It's kinda hard to search for this exact feature and all I am finding are apps that you use on your computer to push files to the Evo, like SwiFTP and WiFi Explorer. I want to use the Evo to browse files on my computer over WiFi, not use my computer to push files to the Evo over Wifi.

Anything out there?

Linux uses something called Samba (SMB) to emulate windows shares and to browse them. Since Android is basically just Linux, you're basically looking for a Samba client. There are a number of solutions:

SMB File Sharing - Android app on AppBrain (Not the greatest reviews, but still apparently works)
ASTRO SMB Module - Android app on AppBrain (You need Astro to use this. It's just a plugin)
SMB plugin for Ghost Commander - Android app on AppBrain (Same as the above, but for Ghost Commander)

I'm sure there are others out there. At least, you now know what to search the market for.

EDIT: Also, I know this is not what you asked for, but if you want to do the opposite, and browse your phone as if it had a windows share on it, you can use this samba server:

Thanks for the knowledge, akazabam. I will look for SMB type apps now.
