Is there anything I should or should NOT do to a EVO before I activate it?

I'm new to the Android based phones but it looks like I will be getting a EVO and possibly a Hero or Moment. My main question is if I should do anything to the phone (like rooting it) before I activate it?
Like is there something that works better or makes it better if done before it's activated?

Or should I just activate it right away and then mess with it?

About the only reason I would be interested in rooting it is to have tethering (Wireless if possible).

some one suggest fully charge it b4 firing it up. I might do that, since I have to work at least 6 hrs tmr. then enjoy it

If this is your first Android device I highly suggest you leave it in stock form and get used to it. Rooting it right away will probably not be beneficial to your cause. Just enjoy it for a week or so and read up more on all of the great things the devs are coming out with regarding rooting and ROMs.

This is what Im gonna do.. Enjoy the pretty interface and get used to all the features of this beast...
