Help Is there something wrong with my EVO???

Hello. This is my first post here, and I need a bit of help.

I got my EVO 4G about a week ago, and I was wondering what is normal. I live in michigan, just outside of Detroit. In my house, no matter where I go I only get about 2-3 bars average. But, it will jump up to full bars or almost full bars and go right back down to 2 or 3. The funny thing is, it does this when it is just sitting down without anybody touching it. Like right now the EVO is in front of me. It had 3 bars. Without me touching it it went down to one bar. Is this normal with this phone? I would understand if I was just moving it around, but it is happening when it is just sitting still.

Secondly, the 3G speeds. We don't have any 4G around us, so I have been using the 3G when I am not in WIFI. On the internet it is kind of sluggish. I did a ton of speedtests over the day, and I am getting pathetic results. 55 to 330kb/s down and 77-320 up. Is this normal? The bars jump around, but they average about 3 for these tests.

So, is this normal for the EVO? Should I take it in and have them look at it? the top 3g speeds I am getting is about half of what sprint claims their average to be (600kb/s to 1.4mb/s).

Thanks for any advice.

i am not familiar with your area... and the signal strengths.. so can not answer your question if it is normal. it would be best to compare with a friend with sprint service too. or go into a sprint store and do a speed test right next to another evo.

there has been a lot of slower speeds since the new year. it seems to be getting better. i have see the slower speeds on mine.. but have watch it get better the last few weeks. there is talk about the cause being related to tower upgrades and tests being conducted.

as for the signal strength meter... i would not worry about it. many things cause interference and may cause your signal to fluctuated.
the good thing about CDMA networks; it only needs 1 bar to give you good call quality and not drop. GSM gets flacky with low signals. CDMA uses more battery than GSM.

Sounds like one of two things. One, somebody around you has an airave, and your phone is connected and disconnecting to it. Or two, there are two towers by your area, and your phone is bounding back between the two.

Welcome to the Now Network lol. I have been getting less than dial up speeds for 5 months now. Before that i would easily get 2mbps down. I have been working with tech support, engineers, and the office of Dan Hesse about this for over 2 months. They claim they are "working on it"...
