Root is this a bad thing?

I temp rooted with visionary...perm root is not sticking so I was able to unroot and deleted visionary but the main reason why I have deleted visonary is because I'm trying to find out why my shift get stuck on the htc screen when I go into recovery or factory reset...
Can anyone help?

My guess for the recovery freeze is, since the phone goes into temp root AFTER the phone is booted, then when you are trying to access recovery, your phone isn't rooted yet, technically. So the phone cannot access an app that needs root access. Ok I have perm rooted it and I'm still having the same issue...
I'm trying to flash with terminal emulator and it says flash_image not found
I have search google xda and more
I have recovery.img on root sdcard.
flash_image in system/bin because it didn't work in the sdcard but I get scanning error..whatt could I be doing wrong?

Download rom manager from the android market, and flash the clockwork mod recovery. It is way easier than what you are trying to do.

I only say that because I had a hard time flashing the recovery image the "normal" way just like you...
