Is This Battery Loss About Average?

Kamau

Android Expert
I have been running my screen brightness at 40%, viewed no video or listened to no music. I have been only reading news articles, responded to a couple Google Plus threads, and posted a couple things here. Yet, my battery life seems to be dropping like a rock.
My signal strength is up & down like a lot of people's, but that is about it. Is this kind of battery energy normal?

Same here. I just turn off 3G unless I really need it. It saves a hell of a lot more battery.
Getting a custom ROM with the dualcore mod might also help. The dualcore mod basically turns off one of your cores while in deep sleep resulting in really good battery life while the phone isn't being used.

My suggestion:

Join the XDA developers forum. Once you've joined go there and search for an app called better battery stats. Download the XDA version and read the first few posts and the last few dozen in the thread. It should give you good useful info into what's eating up your battery life. If you like the app and feel it's useful buy the paid version from Google Play to support the developer.

Well you could get rid of lookout but I can understand if you don't. I'd head to xda and get the betterbatterystats.apk and run it.

The screenshot doesn't show anything really. Click on the bar graph itself to see what's been running/sleeping.

(BetterBatteryStats was bugged on mine, showing WiFi on 549% of the time.)

3g and wifi really suck the juice. I would either turn them off, or use and app that manages them, unless you are using them.

You might check out Green Power in the market to mamage them. I haven't had a problem with the Opimus or the Evo's battery life since using it.

Using WiFi actually saves you a ton of battery. Connect to it whenever you can, turn the WiFi radio off whenever you aren't

Staying on WiFi does save your battery. I keep my WiFi switched on all the time with the setting that doesn't allow it to turn off while my phone is asleep.

Lookout is useful as I have had one phone stolen, and it helped me to locate it.
As for the wifi/3g situation, in seldom leave the wifi on unless I'm actually using it. It's just a lot of times, when I turn the phone on, I'll lose 1% within a minute.

I've had some luck with Juice Defender, esp. if you'll get into the advanced setup options. It will toggle off WiFi and other things when you're not using the phone.

Also, does anyone know how to get a numeric display for the battery? The default icon doesn't do much in terms of actually letting me know how close to dying the phone is.

lol I got that green power app someone was talking about....My phone is charging right now connected to the computer. Just using it for a text here and there. I noticed the battery going down even though it's being charged.
Turns out the app turned on wifi for me which is useless cause I don't have it lol Good thing I noticed sooner rather than later :P It doesn't seem to do much good for me 'cause I don't have wifi/4g and I always have my screen set on the lowest brightness unless I'm outdoors.

It's been said that charging via usb on the computer won't necessarily charge the phone. The power the usb's on some computers put out is substantially lower than the wall outlet charger

Out of curiosity I switched to the cord that came with my phone instead of the one I was using from something else. Made a big difference!
