Is this device doomed to low sales? Probably not

As usual for any phone, individual experience can vary. But after trying out Revo for about hour at VZW store today along with Charge, Tbolt, I don't see how it lags behind other two, save for battery life I couldn't test. Revo gave me best web browsing experience. UI operation was very smooth. Display quality was good. Revo's screen was the brightest at max setting. Its color was more vibrant, accurate natural than Tbolt but not extremely vivid like Charge. Its only con on display was lower black contrast.

Ugh, I had the Charge and hated it. The lag was unbearable. I returned it before Voodoo was around but I doubt it would have helped much because the Charge has much less RAM than these other phones. Furthermore, 2nd gen Snapdragon is just more powerful than 1st gen Hummingbird (I've heard the Hummingbird's GPU is more powerful; is this true? By how much? Because Snapdragon's CPU is considerably more powerful).

Actually both 2nd gen Snapdragon and Hummingbird are on par in terms of speed. 1st gen snapdragon was from 65nm process and 2nd gen snapdragon is from 45nm process. But Hummingbird was made from 45nm process from beginning. The PowerVR SGX540 GPU in Hummingbird is more powerful than Adreno 205 in 2nd gen snapdragon by about 20~50% depending on application.

So Charge is mainly crippled by RFS file system, but not so much by CPU or RAM. Its physical RAM is 512Mb, but some of that is allocated to GPU leaving about 330Mb usable size. Once Fascinate was rooted with Voodoo fix, its quadrant score got bumped over 1600 easily.

Sure, but the Revo scores around 2k in Quadrant out-of-the-box. And I'm sure that with a 1.8GHz overclock like they have on the TB, it'll hit around 3k.

Devs need to realize that just because the TB is an HTC phone doesn't mean that it's the best choice for an LTE phone right now. The Revo has a totally unlocked bootloader and isn't bricking randomly. It's practically a freaking dev phone. What other phone nowadays can be rooted in 5 seconds using good old rageagainstthecage?

I'm not knocking the TB. HTC Sense is great for some people; but many of us, like me, prefer CyanogenMod's AOSP experience above everything else, and CM should be much easier to port to the Revo than anything else.

Amen! Again! Sing it!

Could be the 4G, because it does a whole lot better in a 3G environment. At 7 AM, 100% to now at 5PM it is at 60% charge, with moderate to heavy use at times, including the phonecall for 30 minutes to VZW Tier 2 Tech, where it dropped offline several times, but call stayed connected-Wierd, never had that happen before.

The LG Revo does load websites slower than Charge... What do you think is causing that?

I am a big Xscope browser fan, but saw an article on Android Central that Dolphin HD was out of Beta and was ad free and FREE. Thought why not? This thing is awesome! Gotta try to learn the features and what not's but wow.

I know I posted above about stock browsers, xscope, etc, but I'm not kidding that when I just went to load the exact same pages (CNN, ESPN, CBS Sports - the rendering and load times on 3G) were not even close with Dolphin smoking Xscope. Again, I know nothing about what goes in to a browser app, but FWIW, I think I just changed brands.

Just my .02 of course

When I tested browsing performance of Revo, Tbolt, Charge on 3G, stock browser, Revo consistently downloaded faster than other two on desktop sites I tried. So it really depends on location, sites. Pinch to zoom was also much smoother on Revo. I had to set plug in to "on demand" on stock browser in Charge to make it barely comparable but Revo was still better on zooming pages.

So I tried Dolphin HD on Charge (it was yesterday just before HD 5.0 came out) and then Charge could come close to Revo's stock browser on zooming, scrolling. As you commented, HD 5.0 came out today and it seems better than older versions.

One thing I should mention out if fairness is that I'm still on an X. I had the HTC TB and was massively disappointed and I have never been a fan of Samsung. I am very anxious to pull the trigger on this phone and am lurking so I apologize in advance and for the past if my comments are misleading or seem bias. Was "shooting" from the hip at how much Dolphin seems to have done to their browser. Again, apologies!

kramerica, I was in a solid 3G Network coverage area, had all towers within view and 4/5 bars the whole time. The LG Revo was set to CDMA-Automatic only. The call would go silent for 3 minutes, back on for 2-3, then silent, then on, did it about three times on a *611 call. never had that happen before on any other phone, stay connected but extended mute for both parties. The VZW Tech laughed as he waived the $35 fee if I want to return the phone. Any thoughts?

Gunner couuuuuh! Come to the DX2 Dark Side.... couuuhh!

Just stay away from Flash   :)

Hope I am still :) next week. I needs mah' Flash :)

Gunner, don't go there. You will get caught in flash fire.
I wouldn't go there at least until they get that problem sorted out.;)
