Hi there!

I'm looking to develop an application to allow my business to run more smoothly.
Questions at end of post.

We have napping cabins that we place in airports, hospitals and casinos.
We want to be able to fully automate the process of booking a napping session.

We want to develop an app that will
- process payments
- sync with a locking device on the cabin doors
- sync with pressure sensitive alarm system
- sync with a security camera

The locking device (yet to be chosen) would be synced with the app as the app would send the device a series of numbers that would be used to unlock the lock (and open the cabin door)
These digits would change after each use.

The pressure sensitive alarm system would be in place to ensure that people did not continue napping beyond their prescribed time. Once the timer runs out, if there's still pressure on the bed, then the annoying alarm goes off. Still looking for an alarm system.

The security camera would be motion sensitive and would allow us to monitor how many people are entering the cabin and how many people are leaving it. It would send us a video snippet every time there is movement.

-How difficult would it be to make all these systems interact?
-What language would they all "speak" to communicate?

Best,
John

Hello, and welcome to Android Forums

Cool

Not difficult really.
-What language would they all "speak" to communicate?
They could speak several languages. I'm presuming you mean programming language here of corse. Over the net they would speak along normal networking lines and to each other it would depend on how the system is implemented. This could be done with off the shelf parts. The Android device could be the central controller and would need a way to connect to USB components. I have an Android device that connects to my TV and has USB ports. I'm sure there is something that would work for you.

I think you should hire a consultant to build theese things and help you work out the bugs. It sounds like a wonderful idea and the parts are almost built into every Android phone and tablet, so I see where you are going with this.
Best,
John

Totally feasible from a technical standpoint. However, I think you should also consult an attorney experienced in hospitality law about liability issues before going forward with this plan. Why? Consider the "casino" scenario. Someone in that situation who was willing to pay for a secure place to nap is likely to be liquored up and carrying large amounts of cash. Think of what could happen when the timer ran out, if instead of sounding an alarm, it unlocked the door. Even if the system is rock solid and nothing goes wrong, there are undoubtedly legal restrictions and notification requirements involved with video surveillance of people in private quarters.
