Help Is this slowness normal?

Newbie
Hello, I'm new here & I've had my EVO Design 4G for about 2 months. First, I have to say that this forum is a great source and friendly.
Now to my issue. For an example; I've been looking at pics in the HTC gallery, deleting some for around 5 min. When I'm going back to the home screen a white screen comes up with the HTC logo. After about 7 seconds or so the home screen comes up with a window that says "Loading". It takes just over 1 minute for the home screen to fully come up. It reminds me of the Windows hour glass-you just have to wait. So, is this common, is there something I can do about it?
Thanks

How did you get the evo design 2 months ago, because Boost just released it May 31. Or did you get a Sprint version flashed to Boost.

Anyway that only happens when I'm playing a game that uses alot of resources. Everytime I exit ShadowGun Sense restarts and the loading shows for 10 seconds

Ok maybe a month or so, it's not all that important. I've been suhutting off some services and uninstalling some apps. There's little improvment.

It sounds to me like that's HTC Sense re-drawing. Sense is a bit of a resource hog, and there are ways around that. You can try a different launcher -- there are several different ones in the play story. I've used Go Launcher EX for a while and liked that and am now using Nova Launcher and like it a lot.

You can also get rid of sense altogether if you want by rooting and uninstalling it from your device. I did that and mine seems to be a lot more responsive.

I understand what you're saying about HTC sense. I don't understand what a launched is or does. I'll read up on that. I'm not comfortable with rooting right now, I just don't know enough about it yet.

That's fine. You don't need to root to use a different launcher. A launcher is just a program that you can download from the play store like any other. It just basically acts as a new home screen and user interface, but if you don't like it you can uninstall it just like any other program. You should give it a try and see if that doesn't fix your lagging issues.

I read up on launchers. Interesting. Back to my issue, it was Norton Utilities-Uninstalled it, things are running much smoother. Thanks to all for the help.

My phone started doing the same thing after I tried to put it in DM. now it hoes to the htc white screen after I close any app. I'm ready to root it and start clean anyways...

Is there some kind of DIY on how to do this? I know my phone shouldn't be this slow. It reminds me of Windows-a new install is always fast in the begining, then the more you use it the slower it gets.

Go to settings, Develope Option, and uncheck Don't keep activities. If it's checked it closes every app you leave, that's why it says loading.

Does my phone need to be rooted?

Nope. Menu - System Settings - Develop option - (setting you want is towards the bottom).

Looks like your phone is on gingerbread. Look under system settings - about phone - software. If it says 2.3.4, then it's gingerbread. Also, you can tell by pulling down your notification. If it has a white background then it's gingerbread. If black background, then ice cream Sandwich.

You will not have that option. I don't remember what I did to fix the htc sense restart, as I had it too when I got my phone back in Sept of 2011. I'll ask around or you can just Google gingerbread 2.3.4 sense 3.0, then your issue (shorter the description, the better).

Grad, I appreciate your help! I admit I'm a total noob at this.

My phone is doing the exact same thing and I'm sure it's because of HTC Sense
I believe you're right. I am now using the Go Launcher and associated plug ins. My phone is responding much better. There are a few things that I'm not liking about Go, but I can live with them.
